This will always be the most special race of my career, @blackcanyonultras 100k in 2021, 🥇with a CR. But what made it truly special was that it was freshly “post-Covid” so there were still restrictions in place. No crew until Black Canyon City, or possibly Table Mesa (different counties had different Covid ratings and therefore different requirements regarding gatherings). I know for a fact, I couldn’t get a pacer until Table Mesa - 10 miles until the end - and I used drop bags. What this meant for me was that I executed on my own, I relied on myself and I got myself to that result. I’m not minimizing the help I did receive, as that help was still crucial, but what I’m highlighting was I had confidence in my ability going into the race and I executed that race in a way that resulted in achieving my goal; a win and a full demonstration of where my fitness was at. That day helped me believe in me. Now we fast forward 4 years later and A LOT has changed. Some of my deepest lows after this highest of highs. And there is always a lesson to reflect on. I lost running (surgeries). I then lost myself (darkness broader than running). But I found me and I restored my love for me and in turn, for running. I brought myself back (with all the wonderful support). And I love running and I love the life I have. And all of this occurred in my slowest, least fit time of life. I just loved being able to move again. So today my running may not be in the headlines, I’m not the dazzling new sparkle on some team’s roster. But you had better believe that my fitness is building and my heart is soaring. And my biggest goal as I get to some big 2025 start lines is to channel the spirit I had at this Black Canyon 100k in 2021 - believing in myself. With the next goal of running for joy and freedom first and always. Anything beyond having joy is just extra. No comparison, no need to prove myself or my worth. So am I open to opportunity? Absolutely. But am I less than without it? Absolutely not. Will I keep climbing now that my headspace is free, healthy and happy (in running and in life)? You better believe it. So am I excited to chase some goals? I sure am! 🔥 📸 @kevlvphotography

My life could have been a lot different than it is today. And the gift that is the beautiful life I have today, is 100% thanks to the Heavens above. And although there are still consequences from this day in history, I will not let a day pass me by where I don’t live in and shine my bright and spirited light. 🙏

We’re honored to welcome Brittany Peterson (@runhappyb ) as the newest member of our Advisory Council and Coach for our Warrior Athletes. Brittany has been a lifelong runner with a passion for adventure. As a high school athlete, trail running and adventuring were instilled early, with training often taking place in local state parks. After collegiate running and post-collegiate marathon training, Brittany truly found her calling in trail, mountain, and ultra-running, where her joy for the sport blossomed. Her career highlights include 2nd and 4th place finishes at the Western States Endurance Run, a 3rd overall ranking in the World Skyrunning Series, and several wins and course records. Brittany’s goals are to explore new and challenging races, embracing the connection, freedom, and adventure that trail running brings to her life. As a coach since 2019, she combines her occupational therapy background with a holistic approach to create fun, personalized, and effective training for her athletes. Versatile in her own running, Brittany enjoys everything from flat, fast training to technical mountain adventures, peak bagging, and FKTs. As a runner and a human, Brittany recognizes the impacts of mental health and struggle in life and very much sees trail and ultra running as an avenue for processing, freeing oneself and healing. Brittany is inspired by the works of Warrior Trail Foundation and their mission to assist Veterans in finding this joy, peace and freedom through the beauty of trail running, and is honored to be a part of this team to serve those who served and sacrificed for our country. #WarriorTrailFoundation #RunStrongLiveStrong

An official RUN! Yes that is interval running. But it is ON LAND without the alter-g (but yes, alter-g still plays a big part in my rehab process). But YESSSSSS! The ankle is crushing it, the mechanics are rebuilding and I know I’m on the right path! Happy FriYAY! 💗 P.S. Have I said how great my PT’s are? And my surgeon? They have a return to run protocol that guides this process, but the surgeon trusts the PT’s to assess each individual where they are and it’s okay to modify the schedule to each individual. And that’s great cause I’m an over achiever (and slightly impatient 😜)! Thank you @traininghaus 🙏

“[for Brittany] The day that I met you The world had just spit me out On my way to the bottom Sure I’d never be found Then you saw me for me Made me believe in myself On the day that I met you It all turned around You said close your eyes Don’t look down [Our Love] Fall into me and I’ll catch you, darlin’ We’ll dance in the street like nobody’s watching It’s just you and me and the song on repeat in my head Playing over and over I’m drunk on your voice, high on the moment I’d fall for you twice if that’s what you wanted I’d give you my life from now ‘til forever I’m falling in love with you Over and over again [for Ryan] Until I had met you There was no sun in my sky No mirrors for monsters No love in sight Then you walked down those stairs And I knew my heart wasn’t mine On the day that I met you My whole world came alive You said close your eyes I got you now” - Fall into Me, Forest Blakk - a song so perfectly written for us. I ran today! It was at 60% body weight and only 15 minutes on the Alter G, but I will take it! Just over 7 weeks post-op. So far all systems are a go! Things are progressing well and I told my PT today that I’m a “professional rehabber.” Hopefully that can slowly keep morphing back into being an athlete, and little hints of being an athlete are showing up every day. But being a professional rehabber IS indeed being an athlete. I thrive when I have direction and purpose. And the purpose is very clear when you can’t run due to dysfunctional mechanics that tore you down a little at a time over a prolonged time. I feel so fortunate to have the rehab team I do - they give me new things to work on every time I see them and I know I’m rebuilding a solid foundation and this roller coaster I’ve been on for too long will be over. But the lessons I’m taking from this rebuild won’t be lost - I’m going to keep being a professional rehabber even when the rehab is done! 💐💐Enjoy a series of pics that don’t show the alter-g or pool running or much of anything athletics related, but they do show a bit of the other real life happenings going on recently!

3 weeks of PT in the books and I’m upgraded to pre-running mechanics! Loading the ankle and teaching the foot/ankle and hip to accept load together. My team at @traininghaus has been incredible and they are super knowledgeable as evidenced by each of the detailed progressions from session to session. Next up ➡️ RUNNING - via the underwater treadmill 🤿. Super excited to check this out, since I’ve never used this tool before. I’ll keep ya’ll posted!! 🤘

A month post-op! Things are going really well! Biomechanics results ➡️ Likely ankle involvement in hip instability. PT ➡️ Regular progressions of the exercises and integration of foot with hips. Adding dynamic component toward running as well. Incision ➡️ 97% healed and almost ready for underwater treadmill use! Left ankle dorsiflexion ➡️ 42 degrees (right side comparison 50 degrees) Time on feet ➡️ 2 mile walk at the dog park with the pups (gentle terrain). 2 weeks of PT down ✅ Racking up the hours spent at the gym (or doing PT exercises at home). Patience. Persistence. Keep pushing forward!
