A small glimpse into the making of our short film Merki, which I directed & co-wrote, currently nominated for Short Film of the Year and Best Youth Film at the @edduverdlaunin Icelandic Film Academy Awards. The film was very much improvised, working closely with the actors. We all knew the storyline and the characters, but left room to discover new things and unexpected moments along the way. We collected so much amazing material that I almost have two other films from it. Honoured to be nominated this year and immensely thankful for my collaborators. Fár hlýtur tilnefningu sem Stuttmynd ársins á Eddunni. Árið 2023 var Fár frumsýnd á Cannes kvikmyndahátíðinni, þar sem hún hlaut Special Mention viðurkenningu dómnefndar á Gullpálmanum. Síðan þá hefur Fár verið sýnd á yfir 130 kvikmyndahátíðum um allan heim, þar á meðal TIFF, Les Arcs, Palm Springs, Nordisk Panorama o.fl. Þá var hún einnig fyrsta íslenska myndin inn á Disney+. Þessi vegferð hefur verið ótrúleg, og tilnefning til Eddunnar er sérstakur heiður. Hjartans þakkir til allra sem komu að gerð myndarinnar og innilega til hamingju með tilnefninguna. - Fár is nominated for Best Short Film at the Edda Awards. In 2023, Fár premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a Special Mention from the Palme d’Or jury. Since then, Fár has been screened at over 130 film festivals worldwide, including TIFF, Les Arcs, Palm Springs, and Nordisk Panorama, among others. It also became the first Icelandic film to be available on Disney+. This journey has been incredible, and the Edda nomination is a special honor. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we did this video for @tovestyrke ‘Borderline’ and @universalmusicsweden in the remote, abandoned Soviet town of Pyramiden in Svalbard. It was an incredible adventure where I made lifelong friends, both during and after the project, and we even picked up a few awards along the way including a @camerimage.festival nomimation. Major thanks to @kristinawibom and @rickard_edholm at @campdavidfilm for making this a reality, @tmardell for being a fearless producer, @jacobmller for his amazing eye and insights, and @nils_andersson for working through what felt like a never-ending 15 hours of footage. Gratitude to @jonas_wessman , @studiomarcushansen , Fredrik Hagström, and Hanna Zätterström, as well as Joanna and Annica our talents and everyone involved. And, of course, to Tove Styrke and her team for being so brave to take on this idea. Magic still happens! There’s still so much to be said about the powerful backdrop and the themes of this project, which still resonates: the patriarchy, the passage of time, and the impermanence of things—a reminder to make the most of now and to fight against any form of oppression.
