Meet your RUSHES 01 film selector: Ryan Benjamin Lee 🖍️
Ryan is an artist-animator from Singapore. 🎨 His works playfully balance between spectacle and demystification, propaganda and cynicism. ⏱️ His iconoclastic use of printed material, particularly found images, photographs and books, are intertwined with drawn animation and reimagined as an abstract world refracting in multiple directions. 🚀
Meet your RUSHES 01 film selector: Khairullah Rahim 🌴
Khairullah Rahim is a contemporary artist based in Singapore. He holds an MFA in Visual Arts from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University (2023), and currently serves as an adjunct lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. 🎞️
Working across multiple registers of material and form, Khairullah Rahim’s practice examines the entangled relationships between queerness 💗, nature 🦋, poz resilience 🩸, and working-class vernaculars 📁. Central to his work is an inquiry into strategies of survival and resourcefulness, particularly within contexts shaped by regimes of surveillance, control, and exclusion. 🔒

The day kicks off with a flea market by Arkive Store from 12:00, plus a pop-up by @basheergraphic and a whole damn table of brand new RUSHES merch waiting to be taken home.👭👫👬
Film Screenings begin at 17:00. 🎞️
Our selectors Khairullah Rahim, Rin Tachihara, and Ryan Benjamin Lee each screen their own films alongside works they’ve chosen from other makers. Together, they form three blocks that pull at the theme of rituals and how we move through the everyday.
Drinks at friendlier prices run from 16:00 to 20:00, as if you needed extra motivation.
🌙 After, we slide into music with sets by HZQ and SADAT. Crazy.
Drop in for the market, come for the films, stay for the music.
However you arrive, you’ll find a good corner to settle into.
And if all goes well, you’ll leave with a quiet hum and experience unusually nice dreams.🛌

For the first edition of RUSHES, we turn to the small motions that make a day. RUSHES 01: Rituals 🚏 gathers films that drift along the edges of routine, noticing tiny decisions, comforts, and strange assurances that shape how we move through the world, and how the world moves through us. 🌏
We’ve been brainstorming with our selectors — @his_terical , @rintchhr , and @khairullahrahim — and their choices have shaped the evening’s flow. A hand 🤚 moving through familiar steps. A pause 🚥 that stretches longer than intended. A chicken 🍗 crossing the road.

RUSHES is a moving image gathering cooked up by Goreng in residence at @runamokrun . An evening of video oddities, short films, and bold visual experiments takes over @thecoup.sg , a home to pieces that refuse easy categorisation and feel most alive when shared in a room full of friendly strangers and our strange friends. 👼
The first edition, 𝑅𝒾𝓉𝓊𝒶𝓁𝓈, explores the gestures, repetitions, and private systems that carry us through our days. Habits, coping mechanisms, soft superstitions, and the big little things we do without thinking, the 🔃everyday loops🧻 that quietly keep us together.
Each artist screens their pieces alongside other makers they admire, forming a chain of influence and intuition. Our first edition’s selectors are Ryan Benjamin Lee, Rin Tachihara, and Khairullah Rahim.
Free entry. Expect screenings, conversations, a market, fresh merch, and a party to close the night. Feast for eyes, beats for feet, and perfect excuses to ghost your chores. More spoilers incoming.
