‘Untitled’ series by Rafal Skoczek as part of the group show ‘The fur has teeth’ in Brussels ; co-curated with Reilly Davidson and including works by Yun Heo, Charlemagne Palestine, Tanja Widmann and Helen Shu. Rafał Skoczek’s readymade inclinations become the apparatus driving structural inquiry. Across his practice, Skoczek reveals the contours of the everyday through preserving then reorienting disused items as art-objects. He translates structures from the outside to the inside, reconstituting them within the gallery space as a means to evince new territorial possibilities. Plucked from the Wiedikon neighborhood in Zurich, these panels bear the sun-printed shadows of the fence they served to protect. @rufiodoom @reillykdavidson pictured 1-2: Rafał Skoczek Untitled, 2025 corrugated PVC sheets 103 × 75 cm / 40.56 x 29.53 in photo credit: @usefulartservices #rafalskoczek #damienandtheloveguru

#RafalSkoczek Red Shelf, the artist’s latest sculpture and part of his current exhibition Driftworks at the gallery. „How such an art distinguishes itself from the type of abstraction that has historically invited a gaze away from social reality is the contention of Skoczek’s current work. In one sense, it is addressed materially, through his insistence on exhibiting the cumbersome infrastructure of an itinerant life: automobiles lived in, plywood beds slept on, the shelves of a bookshop kept alive in various guises across the city over the last five years.“ @matt_hansn Images Red Shelf, 2025 Lacquer on wood 200 × 235 × 207 cm Photo: @gina_folly #GalerieOskarWeiss @rufiodoom 🟥 @kuba_frompoland @samisebastian

Kühe und Pferde is closing today at @galerieoskarweiss curated by Maya Oehlen @mayitaoyl I have shown two new works from the ongoing Sonic Youth series (2018) revolving around systems in public space that are set up to control and discipline young people such as the Mosquito sound device. The device emits a frequency at a pitch that is perceptible to a young person’s hearing due to natural hearing loss in older people, and is perceived as extremely disturbing. Those devices are protected by safety cages and placed at heights out of reach. In Kuhe und Pferde the anti loitering device is replaced by a bell. 1. Sonic Youth (Cowbell) 2025 2. #RafalSkoczek Mosquito, 2025, from his "Post Disciplinary Techniques" series, currently on view in his exhibition Driftworks at the gallery. "Early on, the work included sculptural mockups of urban design proposals for keeping the homeless away or youth at bay. These ‘Post Disciplinary Techniques’ often appeared in institutional settings, as if returning the city’s own exhibitionary modes of eviction to it. But in 2018, his parodic remake of an anti-loitering Mosquito Alarm, whose enervating frequency is only audible to ears under 25 years old, went seemingly unheard by the judges who awarded him the Kiefer Hablitzel Prize that year." @matt_hansn Images: 1. #ZurichArtPROFILES What failure has shaped @rufiodoom ‘s work? Currently presenting his solo exhibition ‘Driftworks’ at @galerieoskarweiss ,open until May 25th, the artist offers a candid glimpse into his world. 👉Swipe to read our Q+A! Rafal Skoczek’s ‘Driftworks’ examines the politics of urban space and marginality through sculpture, sound, and print. Rooted in his experience squatting at Zurich’s Juch Areal, his work critiques systems of control and exclusion, using materials from itinerant life and abstract imagery to question how art can reflect and disrupt social realities.
