A bold rhythm of the 60s made from straw. This Decorative Tray carries the visual energy of mid-century design. Its pattern is inspired by the bold aesthetic of 60s, when design became expressive, material, and full of confidence. For this piece we worked with a natural palette of straw: from deep brown to beige and terracotta tones. Each piece is cut by hand and laid one by one, letting the straw decide how light will move across the surface. The process of inlaying reveals what we value most — patience, precision, and respect for material. Craft Days wyrasta z potrzeby ochrony i dalszego rozwijania tradycji rzemieślniczych Europy Środkowo Wschodniej. Bezpośrednim impulsem dla projektu stało się wpisanie polskiego plecionkarstwa na Reprezentatywną Listę Niematerialnego Dziedzictwa Kulturowego Ludzkości UNESCO. Praktyka studia koncentruje się wokół pracy ze słomą, pamięci i form zakorzenionych w kulturze budowania. Technika słomianej intarsji i praca ręczna sytuują obiekty pomiędzy sztuką użytkową, designem kolekcjonerskim i współczesnym rzemiosłem. — During the first edition of Craft Days, we will present works by RUDA Studio, a Ukrainian atelier developing a contemporary practice rooted in the technique of straw marquetry. Craft Days emerged from the need to preserve and further develop the craft traditions of Central and Eastern Europe. The direct impulse behind the project was the inscription of Polish basketry on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The studio’s practice centres around work with straw, memory, and forms rooted in building culture. The technique of straw marquetry and handwork place these objects between functional art, collectible design, and contemporary craft. ROOTS OF HOME is a lighting collection created in straw marquetry and rooted in the visual memory of Ukrainian heritage. The lamps are built from dyed rye straw, homespun canvas, and a metal frame. Their form carries a quiet reference to the traditional Ukrainian hut, while the darker surface recalls tyruvannia, a regional roofing practice that gave wooden plates a black tone. Nature is our constant point of return It is where NATŪRA Collection begins, and where it continues to unfold. From the quiet density of the forest to the open movement of the sea, nature brings not only inspiration, but also colour and depth. What interests us most is how a single object can shift in feeling through colour alone. The same cabinet can become an entirely different landscape. With straw marquetry, we can explore that subtlety. By dyeing the straw ourselves, we have the freedom to create soft gradients and delicate transitions that feel almost alive. In a different colour, the same cabinet can hold an entirely different mood, like the same landscape seen at another hour of the day. We turned the feeling of spring into a cabinet NATŪRA was inspired by early spring. That moment when the forest is still deep and grounded, but the first green is already starting to come through. We wanted to hold that shift in the cabinet itself, so the surface moves from earthy tones into fresher greens and darker notes, almost like watching the season change in front of you. What makes straw marquetry so compelling is the way it holds light. With NATŪRA, the intention wasn’t to reference spring, but to give its sense of renewal a material form.
