đš Out now from @joannakacperekpianist â the first movement from Marianna Martinesâ Keyboard Sonata in G major, celebrating her belated birthday (4 May 1744).
Martines (1744â1812) was an esteemed composer, singer, and keyboard virtuoso based in Vienna. She was neighbours with a young, struggling Joseph Haydn, who gave her keyboard lessons from the age of seven, and she performed four-hand duets with Mozart. The G major Sonata is one of only three surviving sonatas from a total of 31 that Martines is thought to have composed.

đť K. 174 was Mozartâs first attempt at the string quintet form, aged 17 and heavily influenced by Haydnâs quintets. By K. 516 in 1787, the same year as Don Giovanni, Mozart was at the peak of his powers and his composing for string quintet was completely transformed.
