Last night George Yatchisin, SB poet laureate led an eksphrastic reading from nine poets, who each chose one of the artworks in the gallery as inspiration for a poem.
This poem is by Lisa Bass., who wrote to the artwork How Not to Talk To a Deaf Person by Jana Brody..
LOVE POEM WITH PARTIAL HEARING LOSS
I might ask you to repeat yourself
tonight, if the crowd
is chatty or the background music
is cranked up or you clink your fork against
your cocktail plate or
if you mumble. If we both love
the block letters
in the oil painting
and you point
without letting go
of my hand
at how they tilt
across the canvas…
You can find the entire poem at the gallery
The evening was a resounding success. There are just two weeks left to enjoy
Textual integration, so hustle to Carp to see what all the fuss is about!
Join us tonight at 7 pm for an ekphrastic poetry reading! More than eight poems were created in response to artwork featured in our newest exhibit will be read tonight at the gallery.
The reading will be led by Santa Barbara poet laureate George Yatchisin. We would love to see you there!
