What we’ve been investing in is working! It’s clear people WANT to get off the streets. Let’s support that!

A busy day following the release of the latest homelessness data—breaking down what’s working and where more progress is needed. One thing is clear: investments in homelessness are working. Hats off to Tamera, the @rtfhsd team, and the volunteers who make the annual Point-in-Time Count possible. #sandiego #PITCount #housing #homelessnesssolutions

When we invest in prevention, lives change. In 2024, we launched a $1M foster youth homelessness prevention effort with Promises 2 Kids to support 50 high-risk young people in San Diego. @promises2kids committed $400,000 of their own funds to make it happen. When additional support fell short, the Lucky Duck Foundation and the Regional Task Force on Homelessness stepped in, each contributing $200,000 — alongside support from the County and generous community partners — to bring the program to life. About a year and a half later, we are glad to share a few results: 🍀 50 youth are in safe, stable housing 🍀 31 have increased their income 🍀 44 are pursuing education or job training 🍀 32 have completed financial literacy workshops This is what happens when collaboration meets action — and when we choose to invest in young people before they fall into homelessness. 🎥: @abc10news

Housing challenges, economic growth and opportunities for cross-sector collaboration were the focus of a panel discussion that included SDHC President and CEO Lisa Jones. The @leadsandiego Influence program hosted the discussion at @nationaluniversity Scripps Ranch. Evan Strawn, the @sdchamber ’s Director of Public Affairs moderated the discussion. Additional panelists were @rtfhsd CEO Tamera Kohler and @biasandiego President and CEO Aimee Faucett. The Influence program connects leaders across sectors to learn more about key issues shaping the San Diego region. Thank you to everyone who participated in this important conversation.

Maria is no longer homeless. When we invest in real solutions, homelessness can be solved in San Diego and everywhere.

When we walked in, Maria smiled and said, “I can’t wait to share my story.” She was abused as a child. The trauma set her on a path of addiction and eventually homelessness. Today she is sober and living in her own apartment. Proof that we can solve homelessness in San Diego and where you live. We’re partnering with @rtfhsd to share stories of hope and real solutions. More soon.

It wasn’t just a ribbon cutting. It was a turning point. At Casa de Amparo, we celebrated the launch of their Transitional Living Program — providing safe housing, stability, and community for young women ages 18+ who have aged out of the system and are at risk of homelessness. These are young women who may be couch surfing. Living out of their cars. Trying to stay in school. Trying to build a future. Seven beds. Seven opportunities to change the trajectory of a life. For the first time in nearly 50 years of service, Casa received federal funding to support this program — a monumental milestone. As Tamera Kohler, CEO of the Regional Task Force on Homelessness, so powerfully shared: We’re not just protecting one young woman. We’re impacting her children. And her grandchildren. This is generational change. Grateful to stand alongside Mayor Rebecca Jones, the Office of Senator Brian Jones represented by Kyle Herman, and so many leaders who showed up. When business, nonprofit, and government align — legacy happens. San Marcos showed up. 💛 #SanMarcosPowered #CasaDeAmparo #SanMarcosChamber #CommunityInAction #NorthCountySD

Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers, including SDHC staff, who participated in WeAllCount. This is the annual early morning census of people experiencing homelessness in San Diego. @rtfhsd  organizes this count each year. This point-in-time count is essential to secure federal funding from @hudgov  for homelessness programs and provides important information about San Diego’s homelessness population.   @cityofsandiego #WeAllCount #homelessnesssolutions
