💥 Termine (einzeln buchbar):

@nodeforum invited me to build some DIY tool and material boxes for all their super cool workshops. The boxes are made from sturdy recycled cardboard and they fit nicely in Euro-boxes. It was a big pleasure to work in their brand new permanent space @display.frankfurt
"Generative Art 1€": artist talk by @royrobotiks
“Generative Art 1€” is a coin-operated vending machine for unique plotter drawings. A generative algorithm continuously draws an animated black line on a screen, offering an endless stream of potential artworks. Each piece exists in a transient digital state until someone intervenes by spending a coin.
Each interaction with the installation produces a different result, as no two drawings are identical. The uniqueness stems from the algorithm's use of the UNIX/Epoch time as a seed variable. This ensures that every interaction with the installation creates a distinct piece.

Now let’s see how two turtle robots draw together!
Although both robots share the same obstacle avoidance algorithm, they have different drawing styles. One draws continuous and dashed lines, connecting them at angles in multiples of 30°.
The other has a built-in photodiode that detects the drawing surface directly ahead of its pen tip. It moves to random locations and draws circles of random diameters. Each time it crosses an existing line, it either lifts or lowers its pen, which leads to quite interesting visual outcomes.

I love spirals and I don’t know why.
After writing the low level functions to move and rotate the turtle robot precisely, I wanted to draw circles and spirals with it. Turns out this is not a trivial problem, especially when you want to have full control over the revolutions, the distances between each spiral line and the start and end radii. One approach is to split the path into many short straight segments with small rotations in between, creating a high-resolution polygon that looks fine visually. But there are situations where the movement isn’t nice, as the inner wheel spins a lot back and forth.
Therefore I vibecoded (or did the LLM do?) a smoother spiral function, which adapts rotation speed and direction of the inner wheel continuously along the path.
