Open Hardware Summit 2026 Talks, workshops, discussions and more! 📅 23-24 May 2026 📍 online or in person at TU Berlin 🎟 0-100 Registration link in bio 👀 Since 2010, the Open Source Hardware Association has hosted the Open Hardware Summit – one of the key gatherings for the global open hardware community. This year, the summit is coming to Berlin. Expect talks on a wide range of subjects from electronics, mechanics to related fields such as digital fabrication, creative tech, fashion technology, self-quantification devices, and IP law. As a microcosm of the Open Source Hardware community, the Open Hardware Summit provides an annual, friendly forum for the community. The Open Hardware Summit is a welcoming space for everyone who enjoys making, building, and sharing physical things – whether you’re deeply involved in open hardware or just curious to learn more. There are different ticket options available: join in person in Berlin or attend virtually from anywhere. Let’s grow the community of people shaping open, collaborative futures. Workshops: Live-Coding Visuals and Sound with Hydra and Strudel Join us for two parallel workshops at @display.frankfurt 🗓 24 Apr, 14:00–17:00 📍 Berliner Straße 60, 60311 Frankfurt am Main 🎟 0-30 € Registration link in bio For NODE+CODE #23 AV Live Coding Special we’ll kick off the day with two workshops on live-coding interactive visuals and live-coding sound. In the evening, we’ll have the opportunity to put what we learned into action and join the first display algorave! WORKSHOP #1 Digital-craft artist Flor de Fuego will give an introduction to creating interactive visuals for live performances using Hydra. Hydra is a free browser- and JavaScript-based live coding software developed by Olivia Jack. It is ideal for beginners and allows for the development of interactive visuals with little or no coding experience. WORKSHOP #2 Frankfurt creative coders Tobias Hecker and Felix Roos will introduce the live-coding music composition tool Strudel. With Strudel, you can write dynamic music pieces, directly in the browser. By expressing music as code, you cannot only see what is happening at all times, it’s also live changeable and updates in real time. No prior knowledge in programming or music required. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵? – Workshop mit Dolmetscher*innen für Deutsche Gebärdensprache und Deutsch Wie funktionieren Chatbots? Wie lernen sie zu sprechen? Wie entwickeln sie so etwas wie einen Charakter? Mit dem weltweit zweiten Botchen bekommt display ein Maskottchen, einen ganz eigenen, auf unsere lokale Community trainierten Tiny-KI-Chatbot. Erfinderin von Botchen ist Computerlinguistin Aurelie Herbelot. Aurelie ist spezialisiert auf sehr kleine Natural Language Processing Modelle, weil sie der Überzeugung ist, dass Zukunftstechnologien weder die Umwelt zerstören noch von wenigen, übermächtigen Unternehmen beherrscht, sondern für alle zugänglich sein sollten. 🚀 Book Launch: Auto Book / Meta Pub 🚀 📍 8. April @ display 🕡 18:30 Uhr 🍣🍱🍤🥢 Was bedeutet Buchgestaltung im Zeitalter von Automatisierung und Digitalisierung? Wie verändern Systeme, Standards und Algorithmen die Art, wie Bücher entstehen, gestaltet und gelesen werden? Im Seminar Auto Book (von Alexander Roidl und Prof. Johannes Bergerhausen) an der Hochschule Mainz haben wir genau diese Fragen untersucht: Von Gutenberg bis Unicode, von Bleisatz über Desktop Publishing bis hin zu Web-to-Print, Paged.js und KI – jede Technologie bringt ihre eigenen Logiken, Strukturen und Ästhetiken mit sich. Doch welche davon sind heute noch zeitgemäß? Und welche werden es in Zukunft sein? Entstanden sind acht experimentelle Publikationen, die mit automatisierten Prozessen, Systemdesign und hybriden Formaten arbeiten. Im Zentrum steht dabei Gestaltung als System: Layouts entstehen nicht mehr statisch, sondern durch Regeln, Daten und Algorithmen. 📖 Zum Launch präsentieren wir erstmals Auto Book Meta Pub – eine Metapublikation des Kurses. The seminar Auto Book at Mainz University of Applied Sciences (by Alexander Roidl and Prof. Johannes Bergerhausen) explored exactly these questions: From Gutenberg to Unicode, from lead typesetting to web-to-print, Paged.js, and AI—each technology introduces its own logic, structure, and aesthetic. But which of these still resonate today—and which will define the future? The result: eight experimental publications investigating automation, system design, and hybrid publishing formats. Instead of static layouts, these works embrace rules, dynamic content, and algorithmic structures. At the launch, we present Auto Book Meta Pub for the first time — a meta-publication of the course. Hydra is beginner-friendly and perfect for anyone curious about generative visuals, even with little or no coding experience. We’ll finish the workshop by creating a small live performance, where visuals respond to sound, code, and movement and explore how to present your work online or across the manifold displays at display.
