Annnd here it is!!! This week marks 5 years since I landed in Argentina as the first stop on my journey to 7 Regional Burning Man events across 5 continents. I couldn’t imagine then that the book about the experience would finally be out today! Infinite thanks to all those who took part in the many unforgettable moments along the way, and to Burning Man Publishing for trusting me to tell this important story. Beyond excited to finally share it with you all! šŸ¤©šŸ“–šŸ”„ (link for more info on the book and to order it in bio!) . . . #burningman #fuegoaustral #afrikaburn #midburn #nowherespain #blackrockcity #burningjapan #blazingswan #thankslarry #book #travel

Last stop in India, the spiritual capital of Varanasi, and oldest city in the world. Here, the sun rises and sets the holy Ganges alight as pilgrims gather to bathe in its waters, seeking redemption and liberation. Along the ā€œghatsā€ there is no separation - rituals, prayers and cremations all happening side by side. #india #ganges #travel #pilgrimage #varanasi

My pull toward the desert brought me to Jaisalmer, an ancient living fort city unlike anywhere I’ve been. Rising out of the Thar Desert, it feels both timeless and quietly alive. Locals spoke of years without rain. One man hadn’t seen any for the first five years of his life. Yet a few years ago, it rained on and off for several months, something unheard of here. What was once stark and arid is now scattered with low green shrubs. The night I slept out in the desert, it rained again, a symbol of good fortune, the first time in over a year. Back in Jaisalmer, I stayed within the fort walls in a 500 year old heritage property, where life continues much as it has for centuries. I visited Bada Bagh, a quiet hilltop of sandstone cenotaphs built for the rulers of Jaisalmer. Each structure carries its own story, marked by carvings and inscriptions, set against the openness of the desert. Jaisalmer, the Golden Fort, built in 1156, remains one of the world’s few living forts, still home to thousands and alive with daily life within its ancient walls. ✨ #desert #travel #nomad #india #rajasthan

For my 10th year at BRC I hitched a ride on a skydiving plane and saw the iconic semi-circle of our fair playa city from above for the first time. Feeling the rush of air as the doors opened almost sucking you out, watching someone catapult to the ground, and gazing at what we’d built from the sky was awe-inspiring. There was a stillness as we zoomed out of the bustle chaos below. The people and streets alive with creativity and activity became dots, gradually forming into the arched grid-like lines. I took it all in and marvelled at its ingenuity. A city erected in the middle of nowhere, emerging from dust, flanked by vast open desert. And to think that if I was to fly above this same spot a month later it would all be gone without a trace.. Thank you @burningskydivers for the experience šŸ”„āœˆļø #burningman #thankslarry #blackrockcity #burningman2025

Two years ago I visited the striking desert of the Tatacoa, in the heart of Colombia. From there an idea was born to start a Regional Burn in Colombia in conversation with one of the leads of its local BWB chapter. A couple of weeks ago I happened to be on a work trip in the region at the same time as the first ā€œTatacoa Burnā€ was being held. I stopped by to experience it. Though the event is not yet decommodified, and has some way to go to align with the principles, the pilot holds the seeds for a new regional Burn experiment in a challenging context. On a continent which so far only has one official Burn (Fuego Austral in Argentina). One day this awe-inspiring desert with its deep red grooves could act as a canvas for local artists, gifting and magic to flourish, mirroring the values of the wonderfully diverse global Burn network. My hope is that linkages will be found with the important work that BWB is doing in-country. The measure of a social experiment is how far it gives back to and upholds its local community after all šŸ”„šŸŒµ To read about BWB Colombia go to: /follow-my-adventures/of-paramos-cities-deserts-bwb-colombia #burningman #burnerswithoutborders #burnerswithoutborderscolombia #tatacoa #desert #colombia #regionalburns

Finally put pen to paper to describe one of my best BRC ever. It’s a rare thing to simultaneously get the Burn you want and the Burn you need, but when it happens it’s pure magic šŸ”„ Full post here and in linktree: /follow-my-adventures/it-was-better-this-year-brc-2024 #burningman #blackrockcity #burningman2024 #desert #thankslarry
