Quite surreal to be able to say that the album is now out, released into the wild. Equally surreal, but very real, the first press of the vinyl in very Limited Edition recycled black ecomix with gorgeous artwork by @joannemcnae is available from my store and from bandcamp. Shipping ASAP. Both links in bio. Thanks for all your support. Very grateful to everyone who has ordered it already.
Tumbling Sideways is born. I’ve never felt this personally connected to a project. The intention behind the record was to create a space to pause and reimagine the future. It feels like we need a lot of reimagining in the world right now. It’s equal parts protest and therapy, but then I suppose they are one and the same thing.
So humbled by the positive things people have had to say about the music I’ve shared already, and that it’s touched anyone in any way is wonderful. I’m looking forward to more of those conversations, I hope you get something from it. Don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Turn Around from Tumbling Sideways. Constant motion, an infinite loop in and out of the city, both memory and present - I still do it now. Anchored by the sounds of a train journey, the played track length part mimics the time between stops. Listen to the recording at the link in bio. #piano #ambient #classicalcrossover
Big week. The sun came out in Scotland, art is still saving lives and the Tumbling Sideways vinyl shipped to the early birds. There are now confirmed listenings on three continents. Limited copies on my store if you want to join in. Link in bio. If you’re in Antarctica you get it gratis.
In the studio writing this morning and the sounds coming in from outside the open door took me straight back to the day I wrote Sketch. The original’s hidden as part of @wildwildsky app (you should check this out) at coordinates in Glasgow, then it morphed into what you hear on the record. Here’s a brutal cut up of it. You can listen to the whole thing at the link in bio. #piano #classicalcrossover #newmusic #ambient
Supercut of Tumbling Sideways. One of my favourite pieces from the new record. It feels like constant motion. Do you feel like that too? Stop tumbling and stream the whole thing at the link in bio. Slow down, spring is here.

Supramodal is the second track on Tumbling Sideways. I love the motion and the repetition of the melody. It tumbles from start to finish. The mechanical sounds of the piano make it feel to me as if it’s on rails or bobbing on water. This is just part of it, iphone audio only. If you want to listen to the recording of the whole thing the links in bio.

And of course, please share. Thanks to everyone who already has. I really appreciate it.
So many lovely messages of support so far for the music I’ve shared. It means the world.
The whole record is out in just one week - March 6th. If you want to support the project even more then you can by following the link in bio to Bandcamp where you can pre-order a very Limited Edition Recycled Vinyl, or download the hd audio.
If you’re streaming it then I thank you too. Remember to download it to whatever you’re listening on as it saves a whole lot of energy and is much better for our planet.
Tumbling Sideways, the first piece from a new musical project - listen everywhere now.
A record of my first love - the piano, with field recordings and electronics. The interaction between the intentional and the unintentional, that’s where the real emotion lives.
The cover art for the record are @joannemcnae photographs and within the recordings themselves are moments with my two daughters, so this is a real family affair. All the video and art is from my studio, Studio 31.5, the same place where all the instruments were played and recorded. The field recordings were all recorded on my travels.
Made in Scotland @studio31.5
Out on @stapledietrecords with @sammctrusty
Mastered by @zinomikoreymastering in Berlin

More news coming
And thanks in advance if you have the time to listen and share. I hope you get something similar from listening to it as I did making it.
