A piece of fashion history - Issey Miyake “Flying Saucer” dress from Spring Summer 1994. The Flying Saucer dress by Issey Miyake is one of our dearest pieces from our archive. It is a museum piece which was featured in ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York from 2020-2021. Reminiscent of Japanese paper lanterns and the space age, the Flying Saucer dress inhabits Miyake’s use of the pleating technology he introduced in 1990. We love this special piece for many reasons. The dress has a unique beauty and sense of innovation. Incredible how the dress can be folded into a flat piece for storage. Such an impressive work of art. #roskiyardvintage

We love the old Yohji Yamamoto labels; part of an exceptional archival collection we acquired from a collector. Nearly all of the pieces have found new homes. One special piece remains with us: a rare Yamamoto hat from 1987, now preserved in our archive.

An incredible piece of fashion history. Azzedine Alaïa’s iconic pinned leggings, photographed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino in 1987. An image that later became the poster for the Alaïa exhibition in Groningen in the 1997. We have collected several books from this exhibition, which marked a truly unique collaboration between Groningen Museum curator Mark Wilson and Azzedine Alaïa. The exhibition eventually led to a follow-up presentation in Groningen in 2011. What makes this story especially moving is the long-standing friendship and deep mutual trust between Wilson and Alaïa, something that comes through so clearly when reading about the project. Considering that Groningen is not the most obvious city for an Alaïa exhibition, it speaks volumes about how Alaïa worked and how profoundly he valued friendship in his creative life. 🤍🤍

We treat garments as cultural artifacts rather than disposable commodities. With this in mind, we travelled to Paris to give pieces from our archive renewed light and relevance. From our archive: Swedish workwear trousers; Yang Li tank, 2014, a collection for dreamers; iconic Chanel suspenders, 1994; and a hat by Parisian milliner Marie Mercié, whose work helped define Parisian fashion in the 1980s. Four years ago, we opened our studio, introducing Amsterdam to some of the rarest designers, iconic fashion history pieces, and the stories and passion for fashion archives we’ve been collecting for the past 20 years; ever since our teenage years. These pictures were among the first ever taken in our space. Over the years, we have been feeling incredibly blessed to share our love for fashion with everyone who steps into @roskiyard 🤍🤍🤍 📸 by @d.yard
