15 years of Rose Wicksteed Casting!
Thank you to everyone who has walked through our real life or virtual casting room doors. Who has said yes to sharing your expression, heart & creative soul with us. Showing up with vulnerability & grace. To you who continue to be courageous with your bold creativity & passion for the arts. The directors, writers & producers who have invited us into your creative worlds. Who inspire with stories that remind us of our humanity.
Big love to all the associates & assistants (many who are incredible CD’s now) who have been a huge part of the journey over the years and without whom it would not be possible. And to the great teachers who came before for sharing their wisdom.
Casting is not a solo job and what beauty & magic are created by the myriad of weavings between artists and the passion which dances through them and leaps onto the screen, to help us to remember & feel.

“In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions:
“When did you stop dancing?
When did you stop singing?
When did you stop being enchanted by stories?
When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?”

Feeling so honoured to be named as a finalist for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Culture & Creativity Award’ in the Brunel Alumni of the Year Awards 2025!
22 years ago I graduated from @bruneluni with a degree in Modern Drama Studies. Our final exam was a co-devised group performance piece ‘Meet me on the Bridge’ which took place at night amongst a tree-lined avenue of ancient rooted beings running alongside a river - 7 women in white lab coats, black stiletto’s, red lipstick, wooden door frames, nature and abstraction. An early 2000’s feminist art expression!
The following years led me into the wilds of the film and television industry and onto the other side of the lens. An immersive journey of stories and crafting emotions and characters at the embryonic stage of the creative process. And it’s perhaps reflective of the cyclical nature of things that more recently life has called me back to the trees and into a deep rooted exploration and philosophical embodied enquiry in what it is to be human, our relationship with creativity and the natural world (generally minus the heels and lipstick!).
I look back at my time at university with a fondness for the total freedom we had as creative beings to express and create with the energy which ran through our souls. What a privilege to receive this transmission of liberty of self and freedom of creating together in a world in which (increasingly) polarises and where so many do not have. How much I wish this liberation for more of us at this time.
I am deeply inspired and somewhat humbled to be nominated amongst other incredible alumni who are recognised for their contribution to culture, creativity, society, science, engineering, business and for life achievement.
And I’m curious and ever hopeful for what will meet us on the next bridge between these worlds.
The awards ceremony will be streamed live on 11th June from 7.15pm BST.
