Night Sports was hosted at East Portland Community Center on March 28th, bringing together youth, families, mentors, and community organizations for an evening built around sports, education, resources, food, music, and connection. Throughout the night, young people participated in basketball, volleyball, swimming, gaming, hands-on learning activities, haircuts, and shared meals — all in a safe and positive environment designed to give youth a place to connect, compete, learn, and grow.
Programs like Night Sports continue to create opportunities and safe spaces for the community by bringing together organizations, mentors, volunteers, and local leaders who are committed to investing in the next generation. From the gym to the classrooms to the kitchen, every part of the building was active with people working together to create something meaningful for the youth and families in attendance.
This event was made possible by the collaboration and support of Rose City J.A.M., Trap Kitchen, Black Men In Training, Elate Youth Mentoring, Williams Russell CDC, Multnomah County Health Department, Portland Parks & Recreation, and all additional partners, volunteers, barbers, coaches, cooks, DJs, and community members who contributed their time, resources, and energy to make the night possible.
Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, volunteered, and helped continue building a stronger community through programs like Night Sports. Events like this are only possible when the community shows up for one another.
More than just sports, Night Sports continues to be about mentorship, opportunity, resources, and creating a space where everyone belongs.
