It's been a very busy week with all the RootNotes music groups and two very fun days working in Ilfracombe Infants School so I didn't get up to see the sunrise this morning but we did our RhymeTime version of Hal-An-Tow to celebrate the first day of May.
I'm still buzzing from the amazing concert with Miranda Rutter last weekend so here are a couple of clips for those of you who missed it! Such beautiful music! ❤️
A huge thank you to @mirandarutter7 and @concertinarob for an absolutely wonderful workshop and a magical concert on Saturday. What an amazing day! And thank you to everyone who came along and took part, brought food, helped set up, clear up and wash up and generally made the event so lovely. I would echo this audience feedback "What a privilege to have this quality of musicianship and performance visit us in rural North Devon." Just brilliant! 😊🎻🎶
Hi Everyone,
Just a heads up that the workshop and concert with Miranda Rutter is now SOLD OUT!
If you've got a ticket I'll see you later!
All the best,
Becki 😊🎻🎶

Well done to the RootNotes Open House group for their brilliant performance and workshop with the Bideford Musical Memory Cafe this morning! We led a warm up, taught a couple of rounds, performed a few pieces and got everyone playing in the band! What a lovely way to spend the morning! 😊🎻🎶
I've had three lovely sessions today with the RootNotes Folk Ensemble, Family Music and Young Folk groups. We've been looking at 3/2 hornpipes, created a musical weather map and a epic arrangement which is a sort of cross between an old English tune and 'A Million Dreams'!
But I think the highlight of the day was being given this picture of me in my RootNotes hoodie with my violin by one of the children in Family Music.
Isn't it an awesome picture! 😊❤️🎻🎶
SESSIONS CANCELLED FRIDAY 27th FEBRUARY
Hi Folks,
I'm really sorry but I'm going to have to cancel the RootNotes RhymeTime and Open House sessions tomorrow as I have come down with a rotten cold and I can't sing!
Hopefully a bit of rest (and my lemon/ginger/honey drink!) will help and I'll be back to normal next week.
See you soon,
Becki x
The RootNotes Folk Ensemble is now too big to fit on the stage at Northam Hall! And that's with some musicians away! Having a great time playing for the Bideford Folk Dance Club today 😊🎻🎶
The RootNotes Folk Ensemble will be playing for a ceilidh this coming Sunday at Northam Hall, hosted by Bideford Folk Dance Club. Tickets on the door - all proceeds to Pancreatic Cancer UK
Today in the RootNotes Open House group we have been learning simple patterns on different instruments. Everyone was challenged to choose an instrument they don't normally play! We are preparing to facilitate a workshop with the Bideford Musical Memory Cafe later on this term so the idea was to learn something very accessible that the group can teach to others. 😊🎻🎶
Highlights from the RootNotes Christmas Ceilidh 2025!
Thank you to all the musicians and singers (of all ages!) who have taken part in the RootNotes music groups over the last year.
Thank you to our brilliant music volunteers Pat and Ant who help out each week with the Family Music and Young Folk groups.
Thank you to our awesome singing leader @laraconleymusic for leading the Community Singing Circle.
Thank you to the @devonmusicedhub for your continued support.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! 😊🎶🎻
