A residential at the start of the academic year can come with a whole range of benefits:
đ You get the year off to a great start
Holding a residential at the start of the year is perfect for bringing the year group together, encouraging teamwork and creating positive momentum for the year ahead.
đ Prices are more affordable
Trips out of the peak summer season are often lower, making them more accessible to parents and encouraging pupil participation.
đ Engaging autumn activities
Autumn provides the perfect backdrop for many outdoor activities, including guided evening walks, shelter building in the woodland and navigating the high ropes course.
And if you come on a Rootd autumn residential, youâll get to stay in one of our cosy heated pods! The perfect place to relax after a busy day outdoors.

As Activity Leader, Charlotteâs great at getting to know every child in her group â always taking the time to make sure everyone feels happy, confident and ready for a great adventure.
Here she tells us what she enjoys most about working at Rootd and why she thinks residentials are so important for childrenâŚ
âEvery day is so different and unique! Itâs a real privilege to be able to spend my days sharing my love of outdoor teaching and learning. I love being outside in nature, spotting the abundance of wildlife on site and having the opportunity to develop my skills even further.â
âThereâs so much value in spending time outside the four walls of a typical classroom environment, discovering new skills many adults donât even have! We all come alive spending time in nature as it connects us more deeply with our environment and those around us.â
âResidentials teach independence and allow children the space to grow and discover who they truly are. Having the freedom to explore enables children to feed their natural curiosity and develop their sense of self within the world, having successfully taken on challenges and stretched their comfort zones beyond what they thought was possible.â
And a fun fact about Charlotte?
Charlotte can freedive to 20 metres in one breath, and her best breath-hold record is three and a half minutes!

When children get home from one of our residentials, itâs often our team they talk about most.
Because our staff are brilliant at getting to know every child in the group, making them feel included and encouraging them to push themselves out of their comfort zone.
And this is what children remember long after theyâve returned home.
Thank you to Harris Primary Mayflower for this lovely review! đ
Itâs always great to hear about the positive impact our staff have had on camp.

As Business Development Manager, Sophieâs involved in all areas of the business, with a particular focus on developing our bushcraft and nature-focused programmes â where her Masterâs in Global Biodiversity Conservation comes in very handy!
Here she tells us what she enjoys most about working at Rootd and why she enjoyed residentials so much as a childâŚ
"I love being part of such a passionate team of genuinely lovely people. I really enjoy learning from others and love that we all have such different backgrounds and interests, but the outdoors brings us all together.
âI loved residentials as a child. I was the classic creative, nature-loving kid and extracurriculars like residential trips allowed me to explore those parts of myself - meeting inspirational people and discovering things I was interested in that I may never have had the opportunity to discover in day-to-day school.â
And a fun fact about Sophie?
"In every country I visit, I try to see a new animal in the wild. Iâve been lucky enough to see baby orangutans swinging in the jungle of Borneo, swim with reef sharks and get up close and personal with black bears in Yosemite!â
