Doing this for 13 years in a row (come April) feels as natural as breathing should. But I keep doing it precisely because air quality, healthcare, socioeconomics, politics, genetics, access, and more make breathing much harder than it should be for too many. I've come a long way personally since my first Fight for Air Climb in 2014--that's a big chunk of time for life to shape shift, and it's crazy to see the different iterations of me at the same event. @californialung , the research, and the resources these climbs help fund have come far, too. Serengeti sunrise and Maasai security to a tented lodge @tanganyikawildernesscamps . As semi-nomadic pastoralists, few are better skilled at keeping beings safe from wildlife. Also, wildlife: the smallest kitty hunting a mouse (a serval, still apparently twice as big as my buddy), hippos, a lioness on the prowl, elephants (L and S), a sleeping lion in a tree, zebras at their watering hole, and iconic savanna flora (lions here, too, but hard to see).

The Serengeti plains are the wildest, most wide-open space I've ever been. Our guide said it was his favorite because it's different every time. And: kitty!
Cheetahs have the eye black. Leopards are most like our house cats, especially when they make that selective hearing face. Elephants are a bit bigger here than they are near dense flora. Unsurprisingly somehow, the boy lion was less majestic than lionesses and peed a lot (!) mid-nap.

@dhyanalevey was right when she said Ngorongoro Crater was like someone took a shaker full of every magical creature on Earth and sprinkled it in one spot🦩🦓🐗🦛 From the lookout at the entrance to the conservation area, it does indeed look like a massive crater, more geologically stunning than anything else. Close up, it's full of more life and detail than these pics (and video of wildebeest crossing) can describe.
Highlights on this excellent cloud day include the elusive black rhino (fewer than 30 left in the wild and they all live here, seriously leave them alone), a hefty flamboyance of flamingos at their watering hole, baby warthogs (pumbaa means stupid in Swahili, we learned), lots of cool birds and antelopes, and the most impressive butt metal hair I've seen in the wild 🤘🏽
