Today, we close out one of the biggest projects I’ve taken on this year: The People’s Champ exhibit at the Petersen Museum here in LA, to celebrate
@kblock43 ‘s impact on the automotive world.
We started work late last year with a scrappy crew (some who got their start all the way back in the mid 90s DC Shoes days) and jammed for 2 months to make it happen.
Frame by frame:
1: One of my favorite shots of the exhibit by
@chazzydawg
2: Tens of thousands of photo, video, marketing and design files across a few dozen hard drives, servers, and laptops. Some more than 15 years old. Each drive like a lil time capsule of that project.
3: The shipping container, our centerpiece to make the exhibit feel like the original Hoonigan Racing headquarters in Utah. A real ISO 20” container weighs like 5000lbs, and would require a ton of fab work to look like this. So we hit up our old friend Matthew Holt at
@lasetconstruction , who made magic happen by building this collapsible version of a container out of MDF and molded plastic - way easier to transport.
4: The timeline wall, where we tried to distill 15+ years of relentless work into a few key talking points. Not easy. Brought in some original items like shoes, trophies, and wheels to give it more depth.
5: We debated on whether on putting the Hoonicorn front and center, but we ended up dedicating a whole corner to the car (and some gear from the original LA shoot) instead. The seam shown in this shot has a story behind it, for the DMs if you’re curious
6: We had to put every car on one of these platforms, so that the Museum crew could move the cars out of the way to hold events inside the exhibit. I really like these because they put the cars closer to eye level, which was closer to the way people experienced them on video.
7: The Utah fleet, getting ready for transpo from Park City to LA with the help of
@broken_quattros
8: I even convinced momcar to come out from the East Coast to check out the exhibit.
BIG thanks to everyone who helped make this exhibit happen:
