Storms rolled into NorCal and the perfect opportunity for a impromptu run to Yosemite with Jeena and the 8x10 with 8 sheets loaded. We pulled into the valley at sunrise and bee-lined it to Wawona Tunnel View. Only a few die hards were there early and in the foul weather. I set my kit up and eagerly composed on the ground glass and took careful meter readings and patiently waited for the perfect light and cloud combo yielding all the key geographic features. I exposed several sheets and felt content. As I tore down my set up, I struck up a conversation with the couple standing next to us. They were shooting film hasselblads and using the same pentex digital spot meter. The gentleman immediately knew all the bits of my kit by name and we dove nerd deep into our negative processing gear. As we talked more Jeena and I asked if they were staying in the valley and he responded they were spending time in Ansel Adams home. We asked if he had known Ansel and he said yes, he was his assistant before Ansel died in 1984. I got chills and a little weak in the knees suspecting this was John Sexton. We introduced ourselves and he humbly did as well, confirming my suspicion. I was like a teen at an idle concert. We spoke a bit more and I relayed that he and Adams were my inspiration to get into large format photography in high school photo class. We then got a selfie with us all. I’m so stoked at the chance encounter and for the captured image. What a memory!!!

Hidden gem found going the opposite direction from McWay Falls. Past storms had caused trail damage to the iconic vista of the falls dumping into the ocean so we decided to explore the canyon opposite it and was granted a beautiful treat. Wish this location was closer as I’d like to redo a few things but it is what it is. Road toward LA is still closed from the slides but I heard it may open soon. Hoping all the folks in LA are safe and physically well. My heart goes out to those affected by the fires.

Just a little stroll around the shire in a Tolkin story. If you look closely at this 1.5 min exposure you are sure to spot a Baggins or Brandybuck or two. Exposure that long due to reciprocity failure. Ii had to hang out for nearly 30 min do to one leg on a wooden bridge and is someone s walked in it, it would move. So timing was everything .

Ended up leaving the 8x10 in favor of the blad. Lighter and quicker since it’s not a solo trip.

Amazing build on the very early 1972 911 with 3.5 liter motor by @rothsport_racing that is about as top shelf as it gets. Color is Signal green is stunning. No expense spared. The car was built around this rare 1968 370mm Prototipto steering wheel. Even @joeybau59 was drooling. Owner/builder Scott Longballa.

Chill morning walk through the botanical gardens before heading to support the strike line to fight for a fair contract at Kaiser. Shame on the bean counters for taking benefits way and threatening they’ll increase prices to members when they are putting huge profits in to questionable investments including those tied to detention centers. Henry Kaiser and Sidney Garfield must be turning over in their graves.

I was returning home from a long bike ride and passed by a dilapidated piano on the side of the road and knew instantly I needed to return when I wasn’t exhausted and with better light. Seems fitting to use a Dead song with the passing of a great and this in particular.
