Honestly… all I’ve ever wanted to do in this life is sing and write music. Everything else releasing music, working on my album, doing shows, and now having my first fully directed video just feels like blessings on top of that dream.
I’m so grateful. Truly.

Romi Wrights, the project of Tokelauan soul artist Lisa Wright, has long been a beacon of light championing arts, music, and culture in Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond, as the founder of former creative hub After Ours Studio.
After years of pouring her energy into other artists, with her upcoming debut album via Mānuka Recordings, Romi Wrights is finally ready to give herself the platform she provided for so many others.
Her soaring latest single, ‘Shine Your Light’, is a radiant tribute to the artists late best friend, Andrea Orani. Known fondly to the Tāmaki Makaurau music community as DJ Andyheartthrob, the uplifting track honours Andy’s life, legacy, and the light she illuminated to so many.
We chatted to Romi Wrights about the foundations of After Ours, the creative village behind her forthcoming debut album, honouring Andy, and not letting societal barriers hold her back or dim her light.

This one came out of conversations about creating spaces where artists can feel nurtured and confident to explore, share and grow - where audiences can come see all their favourite artists reinvent their favourite songs, stripping them right back so we can hear them in a whole new light! and our local backyard community space - the bowling club in @hataitaiwellingtonnz feels like the perfect location.

2018–2021 I was raising my babies on Karangahape Road, living above the event space I ran.They grew up around exhibitions, DJs,music,dancing, and so much love from the creative community.
The city really raised them with me.
