Alix Marie exhibited @centrodellafotografiaroma
Renowned for her distinctive, boundary-pushing approach to photography and her creation of large-scale installations, Alix Marie is among the leading voices redefining the medium today. To mark the opening of the Centro della Fotografia di Roma, the museum has selected two of her seminal works, recognising the strength and influence of her practice.

Maman (2019) and Stretch (2019) are included in the inaugural group exhibition Corpi reali, corpi immaginati – Identità, appartenenza, costruzione di senso, alongside works by Forough Alaei and Kensuke Koike.
Exhibited in more than a dozen institutions since 2019, Maman is an interactive installation that invites viewers to step inside the body of the artist’s mother, engaging both physically and emotionally with the complex dynamics of the mother–daughter relationship.
The work consists of five images of the artist’s mother’s bust, printed on silk fabric and suspended around a hollow circular metal structure measuring two metres in diameter. Visitors are encouraged to enter the circle, creating an intimate, embodied experience within the public space of the museum.
Maman extends Alix Marie’s ongoing investigation into the topology of the female body, while also exploring photography’s material potential and its historical relationship with fabric.
