From my ink works, this one: Courtyard or Patio Interior no2. 2022. Ink on acid-free Foamex. 110 x 183 x 2cm By Renata Fernandez. Reinterpreting second hand imaginary, usually appropriated from social media. Although this one fell from the family album. In my work there is always a need to emphasise, uncover the sculptural possibilities of a piece. . . . . . #delphianopencall #renatafernandezart #ink #inkdrawing #inkpainting #contemporarydrawing #contemporarypainting #latinamericanart #latinxart #londonart

From My Social Media ➡️10 works, ink -sometimes coloured pencils- on paper, set in calico, wood. 2023, 103 x 120 cm. By Renata Fernandez Found images transformed. Appropriated social media posts that will exist forever on the digital realm but will never be seen again. The materiality of these works seeks engagement. I found the original images intriguing or just beautiful. The lives of others as they shared it, became very much part of my own through appropriation, a habit over-developed during the pandemic, as I reflected upon the whys and why nots of using somebody else’s view of the world. The algorithm made them mine somehow. They are now officially 12 of these works. They hang from the wall, the celling, the middle of the room, back to back with others in the series… A body of work. ➡️ 1. No 9 Silvana’s Mermaid 2. No 7 J&L Canaima trip 3. No 8 Bulgaria Peak -an imagen given to me by a follower 4. No5 J&L Canaima Trip 5. No 6 J&L Canaima Trip 6. No 4 L&L Canaima Trip 7. No 3 Concrete Blocks and Yucca Plants 8. No 2 Antonio, Dog and Jade Vine 9. Antonio’s Jade Vines. 10. No 1 Consuelo’s Garden, La Carlota . . . . . #renatafernandezart #contemporarydrawing #inkdrawing #NPAVOTE2026 #artoflondon

Seating pretty. Deckchairs No10, 2017, oil on un-stretched canvas, 245 x 220 cm, by Renata Fernandez. Outdoor furniture, empty, as signifiers on this static narrative. “Nothing happening here” Empty chairs can offer an underlying tension. While the menacing beauty of monster-like tropical plants looms over. Threatening Beauty. . . . . . #renatafernandezart #oilpainting #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #latinamericanart #londonart #artoflondon #artofmiami #thetagliopencall

This one just popped as a memory. It’s from 2016 or 17, a time when I had a baby in my arms and I could paint little but my sketchbooks got filled with gel pens drawings. Insanely detailed drawings. This was my daughter. Aged 5 or 6. #renatafernandezart #drawing #gelpendrawing #portrait

A late post of studio corner back in winter 23. Just popped in my “memories” It looked so organised I cannot recognise it. My chair, AKA The Throne part of my installation Casa con Vista, mounted on wheels to roll around. On the wall courtyard 2, ink on acid free Foamex, my sculptural drawing. Another cutout ink drawing on the flour, obscured by one the NL Series paintings, Alien No1, private collection. I am about to embark into a refurb of my studio, in order to optimise storage, at the studio and from home, free space sideways (I built storage on the walls for old works but is not easy to access, and not enough as I am bloody prolific). And I need to be able to heat my place as it’s effing unbearable during the winter. I have this super high ceiling above, all that real state requires a floor above my head: 21 sq meters of storage… My house will be decluttered too… I am a small woman. Bought a scaffolding tower because I wish to end up alive at the end of this refurb. I have to do it alone. #studioview #artoflondon #latinxartist

These little gems, part of a series/multi panelled work titled “After MLC” , 2023. is showing as part of “Mi Casa, Tu Casa”, @art.firepit curated by @lacultur4 Karla Quiñonez Leòn . Their sizes are from 13cm tall to 30 (the longest one) to 25 cm wide the largest. I’ve never showed these before and they usually lived one next to the other on top of a narrow and light custom-made shelf. There are 11 and they together resembled the rhythm up and down we get when we travel inside a vehicule and see the landscape sideways, as we pass. The car window view as we travel urban areas. But here they are placed like in a favela, o barrio as we say in Venezuela , growing in a mountain side, peppering the terrain. I am an admirer of the lay man engineering and architecture , that mentality of the Global South that don’t ask permission (nor even says sorry afterwards) but finds a solution for the problem of finding a place to live, and accommodating his/her growing family. Because families stay together for generations. Old houses get transformed inside beyond possible and old courtyards get build over with many stories. Or a family business gets started and front yards become garages of impromptu shops. But people live and find ways of overcoming difficulties. They certainly try. The Global South mentality is entrepreneurial, undefeated, it is set on top of a necessary optimism that is essential. We fall on our feet. Our background defines us yes, but doesn’t stop us. We can always improve. These works are available to purchase individually-for the firs time- so contact @lacultur4 if you are interested. #renatafernandezart #oilpainting #landscepepainting #artoflondon

Strange ideas and concoctions. LC Series No11, in its latest reincarnation. God knows if there will be another one… 2026, oil on gessoed board, 84 x 94 x 2cm I am about to embark in a studio refurb, much needed to gain storage, to keep warm in winter as temperatures can get glacial and I am not Siberian… More on that later… #renatafernandezart #oilpainting.#contemporarypainting #artoflondon #latinexart

I am not microdosing but lately my painting is. The greatest influence on my painting are my sketchbooks: anything goes there, I a visual diary of non intentional gestures with whatever is available. It’s totally free and I hold dear my sketchbooks (I run several and different sizes at the same time). On them there is a deep seated sense of no rules allowed. They are chaotic, colourful, full of odd writings and to do lists that get covered later on because I feel this compulsion to cover all things done, or written deadlines that had been missed… My work is self referencial: I see old works and old ideas seep through recent works. ➡️➡️➡️➡️ 1. LC Series Family 2, Botany Bay, 2026, oil on canvas on MDF, 120x120x1cm. (That plinth is just supporting the work, I could not hang it properly. Actually, I want to build a structure for it, but I am still thinking about it) 2. A skateboard for scale purposes. This is also useful to move heavy works around, and go to the toilet faster. It’s also more fun. No, I cannot do flips with it. 3. Detail, insane drawing, what the heck? 4. Detail, a painting solves itself when allowed. #renatafernandezart #whpaintingprize #contemporarypainting #artoflondon #latinexartist @wellhunguk

I’ve got this long sleeves t-shirt via my dearest friend @faye.allison.art from @planting_the_seeds_uk Get yours, and Faye has just collaborated with them and they have new models with Faye’s beautiful art. In their own words: “We are currently in the process of setting up Planting the Seeds as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). It will be established to prevent or relieve poverty and advance education for people affected by humanitarian crises outside the United Kingdom. Our charity will raise awareness, funds, and support for communities impacted by displacement, conflict, and natural disasters through creative, educational, and partnership-based initiatives. The dream of our Trustee’s Leila, Nicola and Kristy is to inspire others (especially our young folk) to be curious and learn about the complex issues that many people are facing because of oppressive occupations, biased ‘profit before people’ corporations and climate crisis related conflicts. Planting The Seeds Foundation We hope we can use this platform to encourage creativity to sow the seeds of empathy and hope. To fund projects that help communities that have been affected by war and conflict rebuild and reconnect with their lands and support people to heal from the trauma they’ve endured.” In my own words: My kids are related to people gen0cided by the Germans and Hungarian N@zis and as my own son, then 7yo said: “what do the P@lestinians have to do with this -gen0cide in G@za and the West Bank-? They didn’t do it” I had made a massive effort educating my children to not propagate lies, not to be r@cists , to have empathy and courage, COURAGE, to oppose injustice. It’s working in my case, I planted the seeds and my plants are propagating.

Happy Mothers Day in the UK! This one, in its fourth reincarnation. I think, the final one. But nobody knows. While paintings stay visible to me in my studio, they might undergo transformations. They are never finished. LC Series Patio de Caracas, 2026, oil on canvas, 84x 182 cm This is not a real place, my paintings seldom are about real places, but an amalgama of interiors from Caracas that they do exist and I always wanted one. Interior patios are incredible intimate places to be enjoyed by the family alone, shock a block with all kind of plants, many edibles like herbs, Bananas that you’d never seen in a supermarket and of incredible flavours, they might have guayabas (guaranás) and passion fruit that actually bear fruit. Cilantro (coriander), geraniums, perejil (parsley), a monstera in a corner if you got space, but they grow to monstruos proportions, so that one is for growing next to huge tree somewhere else. All plants are potted even on old oil or tomato cans. There might be some ancient heavy metal chairs like these in the painting, these ones can rock, a table for the cafecito and there also people put on some flowers and cut plants. Someone even might have a chinchorro (hamaca) in a corner. Children fight to get on those. There is always something sweet to offer to visits, like in Spain and the Mediterranean (I know because my family is Spanish). We’ve got that from the Arabs that left so much in the Spanish language and our culture. (500 years ago Spaniards were bilingual, by the way, I want to re-arabise myself). Patios are places where the heat dissipates and conversations happens. I always wanted to live in an old house in the centre of Caracas, that had nowhere to park your car, they have one or two large dark frontal windows, a large front door, all inside is hidden to the street, but once inside the house is long and have several interior patios. They are beautiful spaces. Have a nice Sunday! #renatafernandez #whpaintingprize #contemporarylandscape #latinexartist @wellhunguk

I said that people were creeping back into my work… Late session at the studio this evening. I quite like to paint when I am tired: I let go, don’t overthink, enjoy more to solve my painting puzzles. I am working on a series of small, intimate, quite personal paintings. Because why not. In a month time this young one will become 10, and we have so much to celebrate. He hates to dress this formally. He’s got a chiseled face and eyes so blue that they are foreign to me. He’s charming, loving. Also stubborn. This one, Mr R, 2026, oil on board, 42 x 30 cm As a mum I cannot help but think of many mothers that feel they cannot protect their children anymore… So many sisters in G@za , Lebanon, 1ran, Syria, Sudan, Congo… To be an artist is to be aware of the world in a way that others cannot afford. We were blessed with hypersensitivity so remain silent about the plight of others is quite inmoral. We are blessed, I said. @wellhunguk #WHPaintingPrize #renatafernandez #oilportrait #artoflondon
