Guernsey, 81 years on from Liberation yes still showing how a community can honour its past with warmth, pride, friendship and a very good party. A total joy to co-host the Specsavers Liberation Ball with Rylan; friendship, sequins & mutual ridicule being the foundation of all successful partnerships, à la pachoine! @rylan @bernicecolemua @kennedybates @specsavers

Yesterday I was at Heaton Park Synagogue. We were there as Magen David Adom dedicated two ambulances in memory of Melvin Cravitz & Adrian Daulby, murdered here in an act of terror on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The strength of the community there is something you feel immediately. As the horror unfolded, Rabbi Walker carried on the service. With quiet insistence, he carried on. He kept the prayers going to the very final prayer. That is Jewish life. That is how it works. Not loud. Not for show. Just the quiet, stubborn refusal to stop. And somehow, that is where hope begins. MDA lives the same truth in action. When a life is in danger, you go. WHOEVER they are. The final image is the bullet hole in the door. We remember them. We carry on. @mda_uk

A charity padel tournament where I mainly contributed vibes. Others contributed talent. All in aid of Grief Encounter, who do the serious work of helping children through grief, because loss needs more than sympathy; it needs care, time, and people who know how to listen. @griefencounter @anitav_k @llatchfordevans

Georgia is the kind of place you carry home with you. From Tbilisi to the mountains. Dangerously good wine. Excellent company. A few days that felt like arriving just before the rest of the world does. You understand why they say ‘here a guest is a blessing’. 🇬🇪 @sarahwillingham @coxandkings

I’ve written to every Member of Parliament today. Proposals before Parliament would remove jury trials from offences carrying up to three years in prison. Freedoms rarely vanish overnight. They are chipped away in the name of efficiency. Juries did not cause the crisis in our courts. Removing them will not fix it. When the state seeks to take someone’s liberty for serious offences, the judgment of ordinary citizens should never be optional. This is close to becoming law. Please read the letter. Contact your MP now.

“When Marlow’s British Kitchen opened in Leeds, Rabbi Gilbert asked the Muslim owners, Jenade Yamin and Arabaab ‘Paddy’ Munir if they would consider making it kosher as well as halal. They did not have to. It meant change and cost. Paddy thought about it and said yes. Now there are halal and kosher fryers side by side and one long queue for fish and chips. Orthodox Jews, Muslim families, neighbours from every background, ordering the same national dish. Everyone remained unmistakably themselves, they simply widened the table and in that small act, you glimpse the country we can still choose to be. (My grandfather was a kosher caterer, known for his fish. I inherited none of his skill!)” @robrinder

What An Incredible Story! 💜 @sallybecker.uk is a humanitarian aid worker who has dedicated more than three decades of her life to saving children caught in conflicts around the world. While travelling to Ukraine to support frontline clinics, Sally learned of orphaned children who had been left behind. Sally diverted her journey, rescued them, and brought them to safety. A series of phone calls followed, including a crucial one to @robrinder , helping secure flights to Britain, where today, those children are safe in Scotland. This rescue was made possible through Sally’s charity @saveachilduk , which delivers medical care to children in conflict zones. Its app connects local doctors with a global network of paediatric specialists, helping save thousands of young lives in some of the world’s most dangerous areas. We’re all still in awe of you Sally! @pandocruises @dailymirror

Today at the Anne Frank Trust Annual Lunch. Anne Frank’s hope was not simple optimism. It was resistance. A young Jewish girl insisting on human goodness while her world was closing in around her. Hatred does not begin with violence. It begins with language. With people called threats. With rights made conditional and with everyone else just carrying on. “Remembrance is important. But it means nothing if we ignore the signs when they return.” But as Anne Frank wrote at 15 ““How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” @annefranktrustuk (Photo @blakeezraphoto )
