Mix and match prelims at @bluesmuse.philly with the wonderful Alexandra!
This is the first minute or so of a 2 and a half minutes dance, and I love a mix and match where you get to spend time exploring the social dance connection. And esp with blues where we live the simultaneity of celebrating and uplifting our individual expression as well as really leaning into building up the shared partnership #swoon
Hope you enjoy this one!

tl;dr - learn partnered social dancing to Blues music over 6 weeks, with cool people (you’re the cool people)
As we turn the corner from what feels like enough of winter into … more winter, it’s time to learn how to cozy up and partner dance, the Blues way! Blues dancing is a family of living dances that is very much tied to Blues music, and rooted in Black American history and culture. At What the Blues, we believe dancing is both a skill and an art. With Blues dancing being the embodiment of the movement to the feeling of the music, this is the perfect dance for dancers of any experience level who wish to always have an ongoing challenge and progression in their dance journey, and have fun and fulfilling social dances at any stage of their Blues!
This series is aimed for beginners starting out with partnered dancing, and those who have a few hours of Blues lessons under their belt and want to hone their fundamentals.

Finally managed to record (and post!) a snippet of a blues social dance - this one with the fantastic Grey Armstrong.
This is what blues can be, and why I love this dance so much (and even as this was so firmly blues, did you see/hear the waltz at some point?!)
Shameless plug - sign up to lesson series and/or privates if you wanna be able to dance like this!

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015. I was venting to a coworker about how Robin and I hadn’t heard back about our application to foster dogs, and how we were starting to think maybe we should just adopt. In a surprising coincidence, he said that he knew of a dog for us. Earlier that week, his friend had found a stray in Cal Anderson Park, with no tags or microchip, and no one looking for her. Robin and I went to meet her that afternoon, and twenty minutes later, we had a dog and Tuesday had a home.
It felt like fate - that our application had stalled, that I happened to talk to the right person at the right time, that we met on the day she was named for (though she has accidentally been called every other day of the week many times over the years). She was a sweet, skinny thing with boundless energy and ears that were much too big for her face.
Now, ten years later, she's grown into her ears, and has started to slow down a little, and I’m still so grateful for that stroke of fate. It hasn’t always been easy - we've had to work through the many challenges that come with having an anxious, reactive dog. But she's brought so much love and joy into my life. She’s comforted me, licked away my tears, made me laugh with her silly antics and post-bath zoomies. She’s taught me patience. She’s helped me figure out what I want and don't want in life.
I can’t imagine these past ten years without her. Happy 10 year adoption-versary Tuesday!
We walked into a room brimming with imagination on a Thursday afternoon. ✨
Words by Robin:
I feel the best compliment so far Molly and I have received about our dance is “was that some type of swing dancing solo jazz-ish thing”. Whenever we dance we play unconventionally and atypically, and it’s absolutely wonderful to be with a dancer who has such a breadth and depth of musicality and ideas, and a willingness to push those ideas in different ways constantly and ... make a splash 😈
I was definitely holding back a bit in the beginning of this dance, figuratively and literally unsure of my footing (water! video! people watching us dance!). But as the music and movement developed, I remember feeling inspired and supported in our partnership, and felt this sync into our dance groove that felt so comfy, natural and playful. It was insanely fun describing rhythms in the water, and I’m so glad I got to do it with one of my fave dancers 😀
Thanks to @theatrebattery for creating an indoor wading pool 💦, and the wonderful @vagittarius_rex for connecting dancers to this space! Video by the lovely @cstubbs.dance , copy by @robinchow_rc , editing by me.
