Happy 10 year anniversary, “if you love me…” “Many upon a space and time, there have been moments where lines of steel and iron were drawn; and like ants, there was a following of the most efficient trajectories for the sugars in the coast of Gold they called it. These lines crisscrossed and thickened with time and gained the power to bite the hand that drew it. The Lines’ heirs deciding it was too powerful to be left alone decided to desegment it, defacing, erasing it on their whim. Who could blame them, Newton was still in vogue in many places. No one thought to also look Around the edge of a crystal ball; but then many did not see how the bending of light around that ball could mean for generations to come. And now here we are. It’s been an interesting game, indeed, it has. Happy 10 year anniversary, “if you love me…” “In the activity of living, there are various encoun- ters of abandoned objects, a work to be retouched, a finished work, a planned trip, projects unrealized, a commodity that warms the shelf, a space of a just sold object, a clustered store, a caterpillar, a bud, a planet in perpetual rotation yet to be known, Morse code being reordered ... “At any state, each encoun- ter could be experienced as a segment. A segment is bound by two specific points. But it is likely to be infested by other points within or without. For they participate in an open system. Being a kind of line, they could borrow from a line, and reconfig- ure the segment. Joy can be a form of resistance, and in times of lamentation, we hold strong in perseverance. In that light, celebrating the creative pursuits of RBI “curating companions”, CTD… J. F. Longdon @jflongdon has been part of collaborative screenwriting for the debut TV series ATOUA, which explores adolescent sexual and reproductive health rights… directed by @joseph_akwasi , sponsored by @mariestopes_ghana , supported by @unfpa_ghana . Shir Shoval-Simhoni @shirshovalsimhoni exhibited multi-media projects on the slippery nature of truth and repetition of historical contradictions… at @garagencampus in Chemnitz and @culterim_ Gesundbrunnen in Berlin. And Ama Adoley Newman @amoroso_iii presented on her experience at Part International Residency in Vienna, and her exhibition with seeds, leaves, bioplastics, UV light installations, and mundane alter-realities… for the launch of the Austrian Embassy’s Cultural Forum @acf_accra . RBI team members have been keeping active—as artists, curators, producers, writers, filmmakers, and generally “fungal” creators who flow between positions and practices 🍄🍄‍🟫 Congrats to @calebkwartey and @akodei_amyboah on exhibiting their own, each other’s, and their peers’ luminous projects with three ace shows from Accra to Kumasi: >> “SINTAKS: Everything and Nothing?” @blaxTARLINES Solo Space Illegally Erected, Bomso - Akosua’s exhibition co-curated by Caleb and @efia.serwah >> “Spatial beans: Act 1” @ KNUST sculpture auditorium, @angmordaniel60 show co-curated by Caleb and Akosua >> “A MIRROR ON ITSELF”, curated by Caleb and presented by @compoundhousegallery in collaboration with @folikweiartgallery >> three shows that collectively lasted from Nov. 2025 to Mar. 2026. Portaling backwards and forwards, @fibi_afloe curated “Charting New Routes of Rebellion” at @nukustudio in Tamale this past December to March, and @ameliekoerbs.photography is currently exhibiting a project on hers and Fibi’s friendship at @galleriatoinensilma in Helisinki, Finland (“Affinities and Materiality”). Do 9 months flutter by as fast as 6? “The Writing’s on the Wall” closes today, and it feels like it only just opened. It is an exhibition I didn’t so much “curate” as “midwife”. But actually, did I give birth to it, or did it give birth to me? (Artists, mothers, lovers, anyone know what I’m talking about?) Thank you, @sccatamale team and friends, for giving yourselves to the voices and visions of these women, and the wombs/worlds within and around us. Thank you artists, for sharing some of your most intimate, embryonic and ancestral projects, and for playing all roles of artist-producer-curator-participant. Cheers RBI @robinbethinc “curating companions,” for jumping into these unknown and in-between positions, and expanding the curatorial/artistic possibilities. And gratitude to all the “mother mushrooms” out there of all genders, shapes, sizes and species. - - - Finally, a moment of silence and remembrance for the late mother of our dear Priscilla Kennedy @priscilla_kennedy_ , whose physical body passed on during the course of our show, but whose spirit lives on in the lines and thoughts Priscilla stitched into her tapestries…and in all those who knew and loved her. If you are in or can get yourself to Lagos 13-26 April, apply to be part of the first edition of “Curious Curating” Workshops, led by LagosPhoto 2025 co-curator Robin Riskin @rriskinitall and curatorial partner Patrick Odimnfe @patrickodimnfe of Didi Museum. AAF is collaborating on this dynamic initiative for experimental curating in and beyond the white cube space, hosted by partner institutions Didi Museum @didimuseum and Angels & Muse @angelsandmuse . The idea is to grow community and models for curating rooted in indigenous knowledge, ecological systems, and artistic mediums.
