The doctor who finally says what we’ve all needed to hear.
Your A1C is not a mortality test. A slightly high number while you’re actually living your life beats perfect control while you’re miserable.
Dr. Gregory Dodell has been saying this to patients for years and now he is saying it on this podcast.
We get into the real state of diabetes care: the prior authorization nightmare, the endo shortage, what a good doctor-patient relationship actually looks like, and the research that we are genuinely excited about in the next five years.
New episode out now.
Spotted: Rob and Brooke (and their pumps!) meeting up in Dallas. 💙

Most people with diabetes have never met another person with diabetes.
That’s where this conversation starts. It only gets better from there.
Christine Keown is a registered psychotherapist and T1D since age four. We talk about conditional joy, high-functioning burnout, identity after diagnosis, and why so many of us are quietly avoiding the endocrinologist.

I left Dallas with such a full heart 💛
This trip was extra special because not only did I see some of my favorite humans, I was able to witness again the magic that happens when you bring a community together!
The Team Together event is a time for T1D parents to connect, learn, and share the ups and downs of T1D.
I’m forever grateful to be a part of this team and connect with so many strong parents who deserve THE WORLD!
@typeonetogether and has built such a beautiful community for parents to be heard and supported✨
Also some extra bonuses from the weekend that filled me with so much joy:
☀️ Recorded a fun podcast episode with my girl @typeoneday , talking all about T1D and exercise! Check it out on the Voices of T1D podcast by @breakthrought1d
☀️ Met my running icon, @marathonmamatype1dm in the most kismet way at the airport!
☀️Did some half marathon training in at (almost) sea level and my lungs LOVED it!
☀️Spent some extra time with friends who mean so much to me! It’s an incredible feeling to be around people who just “get it”. 💛

Nobody teaches you this stuff. You just have to figure it out the hard way - or you don’t.
@the.benefits.boss joined the pod to break down health insurance specifically for people with diabetes and chronic illnesses. Premiums, deductibles, out-of-pocket mac, PPO vs. HMO, COBRA, the ACA marketplace - all of it. Plus a few hacks I genuinely hadn’t heard before.
If you’ve ever stared at an open enrollment form or just picked something and hoped for the best, this episode is for you.

Support is everything—especially when you live with something that never takes a day off like diabetes. Having even one person in your corner can make all the difference.
The one who:
• sits with you on the hard days when your sugars just won’t cooperate
• helps when you’re too low to get off the couch to grab a juice
• joins you for a walk to bring those numbers down
• listens when you need to vent about the highs, the lows, and the nights that feel endless—because not many people truly get it
That kind of support? It’s powerful. It’s grounding. It’s everything.
We’re so grateful for ours 🤍 Who is YOUR person (or people)? Tag them below 👇

Your doctor isn’t failing you. They just weren’t trained for the part you actually need help with.
@drhannahparr went from frustrated T1D patient to D.O. And it took going to medical school to finally understand why she couldn’t get the answers she was looking for. This one hits different if you’ve ever left an appointment feeling like your real questions didn’t get answered.
@drhannahparr has amazing resources and a free support group which we talk about on the episode. Links to both are in the show notes.
Full episode is up now.
Nothing better 💙
Still buzzing from our Dallas Team Together T1D parent event this past weekend✨ We can’t wait to see you in Chicago in May and San Diego in November!

Here's the mindset that changed everything for @robhowe21 :
⏮ Depression lives in the past
⏭ Anxiety lives in the future
▶️ Your life lives in the present and that's the only place you can actually do anything!
Remember this:
A bad A1C is not a capital F "Failure." A missed bolus is not a moral failing. It's data. It's learning.
So think about this Mindset shift next time when you are feeling low!
Can you accept your diabetes without judgement? @secondcocoon and @robhowe21 dig into a different kind of diabetes awareness and discuss being mindful and noticing what’s happening in your body and mind when you interact with your diabetes. Sam is one of the cofounders and practitioners of @diabetessangha - check them out if you’re interested in connecting with others around mindfulness, meditation and more.
Managing diabetes is more than just counting carbs and adjusting insulin doses. It’s also focusing on the mental load of finding a balance with work, relationships, exercise, hobbies… and oh yeah, diabetes!
Which is why we are thrilled to have @robhowe21 join us this year to close out the conference. Rob’s unique brand of insight and motivation is not to be missed!
