OUT 20TH FEBRUARY 🔔
I’m delighted and excited to announce the upcoming release of my first solo acoustic EP: ‘If I Stay Awake’, which will be out on Friday 20th February. The EP is made up of three songs: the title track, ‘Tell Me’ and ‘Lullaby’.
These are three songs that I’ve written over the last couple of years. The hugely talented @robfullermusic has become a very important part of them in that time, with his violin (and many other instruments) providing their own sublime musical contributions. Rob and I decided to record the songs about a year ago, and did so sitting either side of a microphone in my attic room in Sheffield. The recordings are (mostly) single-track and ‘live’, just like how we play them out and about.
Now is the right time to release them - so here we go! Rob and I will be very grateful if you lend your ears to these songs on the 20th, and beyond… we hope you enjoy. ❤️

OUT NOW! ‘If I Stay Awake’ - the first EP from me and @robfullermusic
These are the three most honest songs I have ever written. They have been doing the rounds of acoustic gigs and open mics, late night sessions, campfires, for a couple of years now. Rob and I recorded them early last year, mostly live as they are intended to be heard.
‘If I Stay Awake’ is a song of friendship, of deliciously long summer evenings with those closest to you, of musical escapades. It’s about the best moments and wanting them to last forever. Staying awake seems to be a bit of a theme when it comes to songwriting - most, if not all, of my songs are written in that realm between late night and early morning. Rob and I also rehearsed and recorded these songs late at night, in my little attic room of the Victorian house in Sheffield which we rented with friends at uni. It made sense to make ‘If I Stay Awake’ the title track.
I always say ‘Tell Me’ is about doing the things you want to do before it’s too late. Some say “you’re too young to worry about that” but I’m not sure, I feel a keen need to make the most of life’s people and chapters. In this world we’re constantly reminded of the passing of time, whilst nothing lasts forever, and important people are taken too soon. My sense of life’s preciousness has intensified over the last 8 months in my day job as a carer for the elderly - my customers tell me life is short and to try and live in the moment.
‘Lullaby’ is a changing of the seasons, it is loss, it is sunshine through an autumn mist, snowdrops through an early spring frost. Of all my songs, I find this one the hardest to pin down in terms of meaning. I wonder what it will mean to you. Either way, a lullaby is something we sing with love, to soothe and bring calm - we could all do with a bit of that. I hope this EP soothes you and brings you calm.
