One tough lesson I learned starting a writing career is that it can be a a lonely enterprise. Writers do most of their work alone at their desks spending hours with only the pictures and words in their heads. But it doesn’t have to be a lonely experience. There’s a community of writers you can get to know, lean on, and share your experiences with. They know what it’s like.
So it was great meeting you up with @sarahgrochala for an @networkisa Fast Track fellow meet up today at Republic of PIe to talk all things writers talk about as we begin this chapter.

Director Robert: “A big part of this for me was taking a swing in a genre I’m not used to working in. Having the space to do that, to test myself, was instrumental for me. Working with another department head I had never worked with - an IC - was also a great learning experience. Not only that, it may be the single best networking event in the whole town, because you get to meet people and see them work, and then celebrate after the screening. It is like going to the gym as a director and getting your reps. I know this experience makes me a better director.”

In this workshop, we brought in Intimacy Coordinators as many directors & actors have yet to work with one or even if they have, still are unclear about their responsibilities. We had our IC’s break down what their job really entails and all the ways they are there for the production, not just the actors.
While we shot intimate scenes with the safety of IC’s on set, we all learned so much from them! They brought a world of understanding to safety and comfortability on set during intimate interactions and that’s the core of what this workshop focused on. 🙌🏼
