We are pleased to highlight the upcoming performances of The Unveiling by Václav Havel, running April 30–May 3 in Pittsburgh as part of the Samizdat Series by Bricolage Production Company @bricolagepgh
Following the already completed March run of Audience, the series continues with:
• The Unveiling: April 30–May 3
• Protest: June 4–7
Written in 1975 under the communist regime, The Unveiling explores conformity, identity, and the subtle pressures shaping everyday life. The production is staged as “apartment theatre,” reflecting the intimate performance style that emerged under censorship.
All performances are currently sold out, with talkbacks following each show.
Havel’s work remains strikingly relevant—inviting reflection on freedom, responsibility, and the choices we make within society.

“Political theater does not mean putting on a play about politics; it means putting on a play by Václav Havel. That’s a deliberate act. That’s a political act. You can put Havel in prison; you can’t put his character Vaněk in prison.”
-Achim Benning, Artistic Director of the Burgtheater
Thursday, June 12th, 2025– we are putting on a play by Václav Havel!

Starring Steven Schub & Robert Anthony Peters.
Directed by Jeffrey Carpenter, Artistic Director of the Bricolage Production Company..
“Truth and love must prevail over lies and hatred… Live in truth… Truth will prevail.”
#VáclavHavel
Note: The play Protest was written as Václav Havel himself faced brutal persecution. It was performed secretly in living rooms and underground venues, defying the totalitarian state’s attempt to crush all dissent. The play remains a stark act of rebellion and an enduring cry for freedom. In keeping with this spirit, we aim to bring this production to classrooms, universities, theaters, conferences, dinner parties, and living rooms. If you are interested in bringing our “Protest” to a venue of any kind, please contact Robert Anthony Peters and Steven Schub at: [email protected]
