‘A synthesis of ancient and modern cooking which allows the best aspects of Ancient Roman cooking to shine’.
Sally Grainger’s Roman Recipes for Modern Cooks offers 34 contemporary interpretations of recipes taken from Latin texts, presenting a perfect blend of ancient and modern cooking. Setting aside more outlandish Roman luxuries such as dormice, crane, or flamingo, these recipes are down-to-earth classics: Duck with Turnips, Cheesecake, Salsa Verde with Mullet, Kidneys Stuffed with Pesto, and Cumin and Honey-roasted Root Vegetables. Filled with historically inspired line drawings by award-winning illustrator Joana Avillez, Roman Recipes for Modern Cooks is a uniquely delightful cookbook with a time-honoured twist.

Our latest title is a hardcover edition of Leonard Koren’s ‘Arranging Things: A Rhetoric of Object Placement’, originally published in 2003 with paintings by #NathalieDuPasquier. I got my hands on a copy of the original 14 years ago and have treasured it ever since. Huge honour to have been able to work on this new edition. Thank you @leonardkoren !

Tuber, or Not Tuber? THAT is our question. In this year’s annual Apartamento cookbook, we’re taking Shakespeare’s famous lines from Hamlet way underground and asking ourselves, What even is a tuber? Where past cookbooks nod directly to pantry staples, spices, or sweets, Apartamento Cookbook #8: Tuber, or Not Tuber? engages readers in the ‘to be, or not to be’ of the culinary world, answering with recipes that draw on a range of root vegetables. A teasing ‘Tuber Check’ accompanies each recipe, gamifying the standard cookbook and introducing readers to an array of subterranean treats, tuber or not.
