Portugal’s coastline is one of the most scenic (and accessible!) coastal hiking regions in Europe. We rented a @roadsurfer van, grabbed our @gregorypackseu hiking packs and spent 10 days exploring different sections of it. Here’s our hiking itinerary: 1️⃣ LAGOA 🥾 7 Hanging Valleys Trail (touristy) 📏 6 km (one way), taxi back = €10 ⬆️ ~150 m elevation ⏱️ 2h 🌊 One of the most dramatic cliff walks in the Algarve 🥾 Benagil Caves → Carvoeiro (less touristy, less dramatic) 📏 4.5 km (one way), taxi back = €7 ⬆️ ~130 m elevation ⏱️ 1.5h 👉 Can be linked with the 7 Hanging Valleys Trail for a longer coastal hike 2️⃣ LAGOS 🥾 Ponta da Piedade trail 📏 5 km (one way), taxi back = €7 ⬆️ ~150 m elevation ⏱️ 2h 🌊 Cliff-top walk above limestone stacks, arches and hidden coves 3️⃣ SAGRES 📍 Cape St. Vincent 🥾 Clifftop walk at Europe’s southwesternmost point 4️⃣ ALJEZUR 📍 Praia da Cordoama (viewpoint) 📍 Praia do Amado 📍 Praia da Arrifana 🥾 Pontal da Carrapateira 📏 2-10 km loop options ⏱️ 1-3 hours 🌊 Boardwalk path with cliffs and ocean views 5️⃣ VILA NOVA DE MILFONTES 🥾 Vila Nova de Milfontes → Porto Covo (Fishermen’s Trail stage 1) 📏 ~20 km (one way), bus back = €6 ⬆️ ~350 m elevation ⏱️ 5-6 hours 🌊 One of the most iconic coastal hiking stages in Portugal ⏳ Sandy trails 6️⃣ SINTRA 🥾 Moorish Castle → Pena Palace → Quinta da Regaleira 📏 ~11 km loop ⬆️ ~400 m elevation ⏱️ 3-4h 👉 An iconic historical route, entrance tickets are required 7️⃣ SINTRA – CASCAIS NATURAL PARK 🥾 Cabo da Roca loop 📏 3-11 km options depending on loop ⬆️ ~150-300 m elevation ⏱️ 1-4 hours 🌊 Westernmost point of mainland Europe with dramatic cliffs and Cabo da Roca Lighthouse 8️⃣ ERICEIRA 🏄‍♂️ Surf town + coastal village atmosphere 🥾 Walk around the town centre + boardwalks 9️⃣ ÓBIDOS 🥾 Walk on the city walls 📏 1.4 km ⬆️ ~50 m elevation ⏱️ 0.5-1h 🏰 Walled medieval town 🔟 NAZARÉ 🌊 Famous for big-wave surfing 🥾 Walk to the lighthouse viewpoint Happy trails! #algarve #fishermenstrail #hikingtrails
