MONTRÉAL: Le langage visuel de Rebecca Munce oscille entre la spiritualité et le quotidien. Les univers créés par Munce mettent en scène des créatures mythologiques et des archétypes humains se rencontrant, portant écho aux questions existentielles de l’artiste. Pour réaliser ses œuvres, Munce utilise une technique de dessin réductrice qui consiste à tracer dans la peinture encore mouillée des lignes pour révéler les couches de couleurs superposées dans l'œuvre. Le travail de Munce a été le sujet d’expositions de groupe à la galerie McBride Contemporain (Montréal, Canada), à la Galerie Momozono (Tokyo, Japon) et à Spring/Break Art Show (New York, États-Unis). Rebecca Munce's visual language oscillates between spirituality and the everyday. The worlds she creates feature mythological creatures and human archetypes meeting and interacting, echoing the artist’s existential inquiries. To create her works, Munce employs a reductive drawing technique that involves etching lines into still-wet paint, revealing the layered colors beneath the surface. We are thrilled to announce that Petal and Stone, a new 10,000 sq ft public art project by Canadian artist @rmunce , is completed. ⁠ ⁠ Presented in collaboration with @explaceto , this artwork inaugurates the rotating Gardiner Wallworks series, and transforms a once grey, concrete expanse into a poetic tableau of site memory, native flora, and symbolic passage. We are so excited to announce Petal and Stone, a new 10,000 sq ft public art project by Canadian artist @rmunce , premiering in late October! ⁠ ⁠ Presented in collaboration with @explaceto , this colossal mural will be installed along an expansive concrete wall built below the Gardiner Expressway, situated at the threshold between The Bentway’s main Phase 1 site and Exhibition Place. Weaving together designs derived from native flora and Exhibition Place’s majestic architecture, Petal and Stone reimagines this immense concrete wall, constructing a dreamy visual bridge between the mural and our city. ⁠ ⁠ Facing northwards to Toronto’s busy rail corridor, the mural marks a visual gateway into downtown, constructing a colourful landmark for the thousands of residents, commuters, and pedestrians crossing beneath the Gardiner every day. ⁠ Visitors will be able to experience the evolution of the mural as it is produced over the course of several weeks. We recommend viewing Petal and Stone from the pedestrian walkway on Strachan Ave Bridge, or grabbing a glimpse from the GO and Via Rail trains that travel along the Lakeshore West line.
