“In order to rewrite and reform prejudices about Mindanaon culture, one must embrace the precolonial indigenous spirituality. This is the only foundation that modern colonized society should value.” -Datu Arayan-
Grateful to finally release this track out into the world. Inspired by the traditions of pre colonial Philippines and equipped with the kulintang, we wanted to blend our heritage and culture with modern electronic elements/production. To me this track is an offering and celebration of our ancestors and the indigenous peoples of the Philippines. A reminder of their fight to express their identity freely and advocating for their continued sovereignty 🪶
Big ups to @rm.onefloor and @knowmaad_ for helping realize this vision 👁️
WE ARE MUCH MORE
ps, there’s a little surprise for my DnB lovers 👀
Did this for my Master's
Collaborated and Scored for @lapduslaguto 's PANGAGIAN
Conveyed through a 13 minute one shot conceptual expressionist painting by @polet.png
Video recording by @cal.drawgo
Story of Pangagian:
In the aftermath of the apocalypse, a band of barren women ventures into the mystical realm of Mebuyan, seeking an audience with the deity herself, beseeching her to bestow upon them the vital gift required for replenishing the earth. Thus commences the sacred ritual. - Lapidus Laguto Pangagian 2023 This narrative delves into the essence of femininity and the profound challenges of childbirth, intertwining them as integral symbols within the overarching theme. The backdrop is anchored in Mebuyan, contextualized as Mindanao, yet set within a dystopian landscape post-catastrophe, where the remnants of civilization struggle to endure.
Kaamulan!
Surreal.
Getting to play the Agung on unplanned jams, meeting new friends, and listening to the community's song and chants.
