We learned so much about the Holiday of Pinkster, originally a Dutch settler’s holiday but now recognized as a day of rest and celebration for those who’s ancestors were ensalved by the Dutch settlers as they would offer their laborers a week or so of rest. SILICA KNOWLEDGE: Some enslaved peoples were made to be Potters in the past- being made to dig up clay and make glazes from natural materials. They would make pots for whatever business they worked for and some of the more daring would add a secret signature somewhere on the vessel 👀 their “Chop” using the indentation of their nails or etching their name, claiming their art work as theirs! We’ve been able to track down certain artists and credit their work through their signature chop! Giving them full gallery exhibitions to the no longer living (but still all deserving) Potter! Their life’s work on display for the public to admire, finally, after all this time. Pinkster is re-enacted by organized entities such as @pinksterplayers who travel and offer an authentic experience to what once was and showcase the joy that this holiday still holds for the living.
