In todayās experiment, we wanted to see what it would be like to record a small band with only omnidirectional mics! Why?? Because theyāre fun!! š
As shown in the video, we used the Electro-Voice 635a Omni Microphone on everything. We processed the mics on the drums through Neve preamps, into our D-comp, and through our Pultec EQs. The bass cab and guitar amp mics went through our API preamps.

This isnāt our favorite way to record pianoā¦ but if the song calls for it, it sounds pretty cool!
The XY mic technique uses two cardioid microphones placed at a 90-degree angle with their diaphragms close together to capture a natural stereo image with minimal phase issues.
