PLEASE NOTE that the beach clean will not be happening this Sunday 10th as previously advertised. We have had to postpone till the following Sunday 17th May at 11am - meet us at our usual spot, the octopus beach hut. All equipment provided. All welcome. Despite us booking our regular beach cleans in January it appears someone has booked in the Malle Beach Run at the same time unfortunately (we normally miss it but this year oops!)- so we will not be able to access the beach. Who knows…perhaps @mallelondon would like to make a donation to Rise Up Clean Up Margate CIC (click the link on our website!) to help preserve our beautiful beach environment once they’ve finished racing on it! All donations help us to continue running the beach cleans, restocking the TidyPac stations along the seafront with free-to-the-public rubbish bags and allowing us to continue spreading environmental and ocean conservation messages via projects like the current amazing @riseupresidency_ @officialthanetcouncil new recycling bins that are being painted by local and national artists all along the Thanet coastline. 💪

Do you use the free bags in them? @officialthanetcouncil team have just installed these new stations and Sara & Lilly, who you may spot regularly leading our beach cleans, have just added all the info decals. 🙌 These handy stations are filled daily by our brilliant team of Rise Up Clean Up volunteers with free bags for disposing of general rubbish & dog waste - in order to help keep our beach clean. The stations get a battering from our wild coastal weather so they need replacing every few years and these are paid for by kind donations from the public & local businesses as well as money raised and donated previously by the @walpoleaquathlon If you’d like to donate, as a one off payment or a regular direct debit, please go to the website and hit the DONATE NOW button. Lifesavers- our first mural project for 2026 in partnership with @rnlimargate Artist @louismasaimichel has painted a 40 ft shipping container beside the RNLI new build placed behind the Turner Contemporary in Margate A to scale baby humpback whale sits on a William Morris pattern called seaweed. Whales fertilise the ocean rainforest. Their movement and nutrient cycles help sustain phytoplankton, the tiny plants that produce much of the oxygen on our planet. Two lifebuoys hang from the whale’s tail, connecting two kinds of protection: those saving lives at sea, and those quietly keeping the ocean alive. “The painting is more about the seaweed than the whale because without seaweeds and seagrass our planets ability to create balanced CO2 and Oxygen levels would diminish. Without a healthy whale population there simply won’t be enough fertiliser and that’s what grows big ocean forests. What an absolute pleasure spending the sunny morning with this lovely bunch from the @changingmindskent Walk & Talk Westgate group led by Claire. The group meets every Monday (except bank holidays) at 9-10:30am at St Mildred’s Bay - anyone can join for a stroll & roll (if you use wheels) along Thanet’s coastline. Claire invites people from the community to come and talk to the group so I went along to tell them about @riseupcleanup and @cleanup_uk and we borrowed equipment from Cleanup Hub @bonvolks . Everyone mucked in to do a litter pick along the clifftop, through the Sunken Garden and down around the car park & by the end they even fought to grab the litter, such enthusiasm! Thanks heaps to our amazing volunteers, including SANTA, who came out this glorious sunny morning for the community beach clean on Main Sands. 12 bags of rubbish removed and 1 dead RAT 🐀 reported. Please remember if you find dead wildlife (birds or other) DO NOT TOUCH - report to the council via the website so that they can remove it safely. /info-pages/wildlife-reporting/ The amazing Air Ambulance @airambulancekss were on the beach today. They are a charity providing helicopter emergency medical services for Kent, Surrey & Sussex and were there to transport a patient for hospital care.
