Hello friends, and supporters of Shallow Dive Records. After a lot of quizzical thought and head scratching, I’m excited to finally share that Shallow Dive Records is now Plastic Abyssal r&r. The old name came from a kind of irony: the idea of “diving” into underground culture, art, sound; but as an enthusiastic novice. Surface-level immersion in an age where everything is flattened into content, aesthetics, branding, speed. Over time, this label has moved into territory the surface can no longer hold. Plastic Abyssal r&r feels more accurate to the world the label inhabits now: *synthetic comfort, *consumer decay, *infinite entertainment, *info exhaustion, *lots’a noises everywhere, *plastic made permanent on the seafloor, && creative impulses surviving despite it all. “Plastic” because so much of contemporary life feels petrochemical, yet unavoidable. You know, that old hippie epithet? “Abyssal” references the deep ocean: bleak pressure, aphotic darkness, suckerfish! “rest & relaxation” because even collapse gets sold back to us as wellness, escapism, ambiance. It’d be nice to chuckle overtly at this, no? The name is intentionally too long. Slightly absurd and uncomfortable. Just as outsider art should be. The label will continue releasing music but refining itself as it does. Focusing on releases from artists with clarity of practice, radical intent, and sensibilities rooted in diy organizing. TLDR FFO: Weirdo, outsider, experimental, skronk, field recordings, doom folk, spoken word, art punk, collaborative social practice, and projects that don’t fit neatly anywhere else. Same label, new chapter. *All SDR releases will remain available on the Bandcamp page, now sporting the plasticbyssal url. **Big announcement coming tomorrow** Cheers, PARR / OG logo: @reynita.sg

TAA is thrilled to welcome @rip.florence to the roster! 🪁🪁🪁🪁🪁🪁 Rip Florence is an art-punk singer-songwriter, sound collagist, educator, and organizer based in Santa Cruz. Blending freak folk, no wave, journalistic noise, and tape-saturated lo-fi, Rip writes emotionally direct songs that weave together tenderness, irony, and distortion. His music is rooted in a diy ethos that explores themes of labor, alienation, digital feelings, blissful creative abandon, and late-capitalist surrealism. Rip has performed in clubs and living rooms throughout the Bay Area, U.S., and Europe, opening for artists such as King Tuff, Magik Markers, Peter Stampfel, and Shitlove, performed alongside Daniel Johnston, among many other acts toiling in the underground ~ He’s currently an artist-in-residence at @anindexofmusic in Santa Cruz, curating an exhibition and record highlighting oration and interview audio from unhoused individuals. The orations are paired with thematic noise and abrasive soundscapes which will be poised for viewing and release in late Spring 2026. Rip also curates the outsider label and imprint @plastic.abyssal Rest & Relaxation (formerly Shallow Dive Records), supporting outsider, art-punk freaks and weirdos near and far in addition to working on his next solo record, slated for release in late ‘26. 🪁🪁🪁🪁🪁🪁 For booking and all other inquiries, please contact: [email protected]

Stage plot request turned into an opportunity to doodle / blissed out at @ucscias current exhibition intersecting archival research, marine mammal conservation, and multimedia art // thankful to be in grad school in such a beautiful place in the world /// doing time~warp with Jenny at the Shared Adventures Halloween party //// flabbergasted to have found the time outside of work and school to play a show at @beautysupply.arts in Oakland on 11/22 w @sloppy_seahorse @sadiegreyduck @feefawfumband to benefit @rogers_and_rosewater - they are doing noble work in consequential times & I’m so happy that this show will be an opportunity for resource sharing in an era when essential human rights and basic mobility are continually being stripped from the working class. 1. Filipina dog butt! Many many thanks to @shameaboutrae @libyamontes @pawnrecords and the Cebu City scene for hosting my friend @dra.seil and I. This show was at a venue outside of the city center with a beautiful patio and lounge area. It was comfortably warm, humid, and there was an enthusiastic bird hiding somewhere in the awning overhang that accented everyone’s performance. Photo by Rae. 2. Flyer for a KALX happening this Monday 4/28 at 6:30pm with DJ Bartleby. This will be taking place during his show FREEFORM from 6-8pm. I’ll be playing a short set, sharing local music /diy sounds from afar, and chatting! Flyer by @bartleby_kalx 3&4. New 45 ep, “THREE CHEERS FOR TRASH!!!” coming out via mailman, garbage refurbisher Tracey J.C. of Peoria aka Waste Management Records on 5/17. All clear 8” squares, edition of 17. Features 4 songs from previous releases and one rough mix of new song “ESP MVP” from an upcoming record with the imaginary but very real band, MOTEL art! I’m looking forward to sharing this bill with Anna Hillburg, Al Harper, Swiss, Bowl Peace, Davit Schendel and Josiah Flores at El Rio on Thursday May 22, (the day after my 34th birthday) ! @totalaccordagency @whitecratesf 6. Joss paper burning. Filial Piety at Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei. Parallel worlds honoring skeleton wisdom. I want to continually take part in/cherish ceremony for good fortune. What are we celebrating simultaneously/alongside Neo-fascist, libertarian genocide regimes and radical 21st c hyper-individualism & consumption culture? I’m a part of it too.
