Some of Infidels Jazz’ most popular events this year have been shows focused on guitar, and other stringed instruments. We’ve got lots of similar shows right around the corner! Aram Bajakian played with Lou Reed for years, and he’s going to be celebrating Lou’s music at VIFF on May 16 & 17 with two special shows! Van Django plays there in June, and so do the Reviberators! Chicago-based guitarist Fareed Haque is returning to Vancouver for the first time in over 20 years, and he’ll be joined by Peter Washington on bass, and Mike Clark on drums! He’ll also be performing an intimate duo show with Itamar Erez the night before! Madeleine Elkins was named as one of Vancouver’s top 10 musicians to watch by the Vancouver Province, and she’ll be bringing her long-running trip to China Cloud on May 23! Hip Santa features violin maverick Jesse Zubot, and Kenton Loewen on drums! They’’l be playing Zameen Art House on May 29th! Dante Andre-Kahan performs the music of John Abercrombie at Frankie’s After Dark! Alvin Brendan plays Meo Chinatown, Klee Zubot plays his first show for Infidels, and David Sikula hosts a jam session at Hero’s! Oudist Ahmed Maher’s Maktoub celebrates the release of their new album at the Alliance Francais! Michael Occhipinti plays our June Jazz Showcase with ES:MO at Zameen Art House! Gordon Grdina plays two shows for us in July, with Haram taking the stage at the American, and then his long-running trio playing Hero’s Welcome! We just announced Black Joe Lewis playing the Pearl in August, and Julian Lege plays the Chan in October! #infidelsjazz
