Happy International Day of Families! 💙
How will your family make time to play today? Whether it’s getting outside, sharing a game, laughing together, or simply spending time side by side, play is a powerful way to connect, learn, and create lasting memories.

Good morning, RTP universe!
It's the 2nd Wednesday of the month, which means it's TIME FOR A NEW EPISODE OF THE PLAYCAST. But in this case, it also means, it's time for THE FIRST-EVER EPISODE OF PLAYCAST, a pilot project from the RTP Indigenous Programs Training Team.
"But training team!" we hear you ask. "Where can I GET the episode?!" Good news, friends. Catch Episode 1 on YouTube right here: /watch?v=V5a1eEDDY14 (find in our link tree)
In today's inaugural episode, we're talking about summer program prep, the pressures put on youth workers by larger social systems, and what it means to center Indigeneity in youth programming WITH youth, not "for" or "at" youth.
Content warnings for this episode: discussions of the Indian Residential School System, student fights, and/or fainting.

On June 11, we celebrate the International Day of Play — a day dedicated to something every child deserves: the freedom, time, and space to play.
At Right To Play, we see every day how play goes far beyond fun. It helps children build confidence, support their mental well-being, stay in school, and build the skills they need to shape their futures.
And this year, we want YOU to be part of the celebration.
Get ready to share your 15 seconds of play! 🎥⚽💃
We’re challenging our community to post a 15-second video or photo showing how you play in honour of the International Day of Play. Whether it’s a game, movement, laughter, sport, or a moment that brings you joy — it all counts.
Tag us and join the movement, because when we make time to play, we make space for connection, joy, and possibility.

How does play support children’s mental health?
It gives children a safe space to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others. Through play, kids learn to navigate emotions. They develop resilience and feel a sense of belonging—things every child needs to thrive.
What starts as a simple game becomes something much bigger: a child finding their voice, building friendships, and feeling supported in ways that last far beyond the moment.
Because when children have the chance to play, they don’t just have fun—they build the foundation for stronger mental health.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month - and play can be the great equalizer for those in need.
How does Play help Psychosocial support?
Through our programs, children access safe spaces where they can express themselves, build confidence, and feel a sense of belonging. Play isn’t just fun, it’s a powerful tool for psychosocial support, helping children process emotions, reduce stress, and strengthen resilience.
Because when children feel supported, they can heal, grow, and thrive.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games are happening this summer in Glasgow, and Right To Play is a proud partner of Commonwealth Sport Canada and the athletes attending the games!
Next Wednesday, as it makes it's way to the opening ceremonies in July, the King's Baton will be making it's relay stop in Burlington, to inspire and engage and honour sport!
From waterfront celebrations to powerful community voices, this stop on the journey to 2026 Commonwealth Games is about more than tradition—it’s about what sport makes possible.
At Right To Play, we’re proud to be part of a moment that brings together young leaders, athletes, and communities around values we see every day in our programs: confidence, belonging, resilience, and hope.
Because when children have the chance to play, they don’t just grow—they thrive.
Join us in celebrating the power of sport, the strength of community, and the journey ahead!

On March 14, Edmonton’s legal community came together for the annual Crown vs. Defence Charity Hockey Game—turning friendly competition into real, tamgible impact.
Since 2015, this incredible event has raised over $200,000 to support Right to Play programs with Indigenous youth in Alberta.
And this year? A special message from Ron MacLean helped make the night even more memorable.
Because when we come together through play, we create stronger communities.
