I had to process this moment for the team. My brother @phontigallo already gave flowers to our brother @rapperbigpooh for his masterful work on this #goldmouf project. Let me say something about this man and his growth to being an AnR with impeccable foresight, vision, and execution. Respect to @nu.frfr and @timgloverr over at @interscope they held down their end of getting this record out. But, my guy @rapperbigpooh has been overlooked and under celebrated for years. With this @lute_west9 project AnR’ing he did, you MF better pay homage and give this legend his flowers! Only someone with his pedigree could have overseen a project from a new artist developing over time, protect the integrity of the music, the artist vision, manage the moving parts, call in favors, provide guidance and support daily, as well as continue to be top tier legendary himself as an artist is beyond incredible! Man I’m honored to call this man my friend and to be of service to his growth and vision as a man and talent. He might call me his mentor but he’s my inspiration for sheer excellence. When you see his drive and continued growth you can’t help but be inspired. NC/VA you should be honoring this brother and everything attached to his tree from 2002-2021 and beyond. Today my little homie/brotha @lute_west9 drops his debut album Gold Mouf at 12 noon! I’m biased so I will just say sit with this one and let the story unfold. We haven’t even the slightest idea of how bad our ancestors had it. We should never forget or keep being rocked to sleep! We may not have the physical scars anymore, but the mental scars and warfare are never going away! Change starts in the mind. As a man thinketh so shall he be. We need to fight for how we are seen and how we think of ourselves. When people ask me about where I see music at today, I ask them to look at where our people are. We are in a perpetual state of drug use, violence, money chasing, free non-commitment relationships, and easily accepting of outside influence on our cultures. We are first seen to the world through our black entertainment excellence. How we paint that narrative and what we give the world is a glimpse into how we see ourselves.
