Excited and honored to welcome back my mentor and friend, Roderick Grant to CAAD for a Lecture next Wednesday. If you're in Sharjah and the whereabouts, this is where you want to be. Associate Professor of Graphic Design Roderick Grant will walk us through the landscape of contemporary design curricula and the pursuit of crafting a graphic design program at OCAD that asks rather than tells, reflects rather than directs. The program aims to embrace the nature of what a design process is, and what it might be if only we could get out of the way of always trying to make concrete that which is ultimately fugitive and temporary. We will examine trials to embrace the fact that to approach an uncertain world, one cannot manifest design as a fixed certainty. Through faculty and student perspectives, we ask “what if design were less certain of itself”, but more sensitive and appropriate to our current circumstance.

Oplatek will delve into aspects of his design practice and philosophy. Drawing upon the rich heritage of Swiss graphic design, he will discuss how traditional design principles intersect with contemporary techniques in his work. Accompanied by an exhibition of 52 selected posters spanning Claudiabasel's career, the grand formats, visually captivating, are prime examples of how poster design can be a tool to inform, engage, and excite. @jiri_oplatek __________ Part of Riwaq Al Fikr- ADMAF Talks, and is open to the public.
