It’s a short introduction to sailing for complete beginners given by an instructor who understands you may be apprehensive. The aim is to have fun, learn the basic sailing skills and how to sail safely. By the end of the course you will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework, be aware of safety onboard and have experienced living onboard a yacht. On successfully completing all the required elements you will be awarded the RYA Start Yachting certificate.
June course: 20 and 21 June (two places left)
RYA Diesel Engine
Mechanical failure is the main cause of rescue call-outs to pleasure vessels. Most engine problems can be avoided by taking simple precautions and you don’t need detailed mechanical knowledge to carry out repairs. This course is designed to teach vessel owners and users (both power and sail) the basics of how to maintain and repair their engine.
June course: 19 June (a few places left)

Everyone starts sailing for a reason. In the latest 'Sharks Tales', meet our Sharks sailor Audrey Liu and learn what truly prompted her to start sailing. Inspired by her older sister, Audrey didn’t just find a sport — she found the courage to pursue it, even in a sport often seen as male dominated.

Volvo Spring Regatta 2026 - Day 2 race report
Sailors returned on Sunday for Day 2 of the Volvo Spring Regatta, hoping for a repeat of the previous day’s conditions. While wind was present, it proved to be a light air day, testing sailors’ ability to keep their boats smooth and fast within the confines of Victoria Harbour.
Race Officer Barry Truhol started the first race of the day in the Hung Hom area, with an easterly breeze of 3 to 6kts. Fleets were sent on harbour-based courses with a target race time of one hour, sailing 1.5 to 2 laps of windward-leeward courses. The upwind marks were set off Tai Koo Shing or Shau Kei Wan, with finishes at Hung Hom or Kowloon Bay. Despite the light conditions, racing remained close and competitive, with tight margins across all classes.
Fortunately, the breeze held long enough for race management to successfully run a second race. Truhol commented, “ For the second race, taking into account that it was Mother’s Day, we chose courses with a target race time of about an hour and a half. Boats were finishing in approximately one hour and 10 to 15 minutes, which meant everyone could get ashore early for prize giving and hopefully to enjoy a happy Mother’s Day.”
After two races on Day 2, Tai Chi and Manbude delivered strong performances, climbing to first overall in Big Boat Divisions 1 and 3 respectively, while Daydream maintained a firm hold on the lead in Division 2.
In the one design classes, Etchells Racer Smithy, Flying Fifteen Fei Faan, Impala Boss Hogg, J/80 Footloose, Ruffian Buster and Sportsboat Serendipity successfully defended their leads, securing victory in their respective divisions and lifting their trophies. Dragon Eaux Vives and Pandora Windfall each posted two bullets and 1 bullet respectively on the day, climbing significantly up the overall standings.

Volvo Spring Regatta 2026 - Day 1 race report
Another fine weekend in Hong Kong delivered a decent breeze in Victoria Harbour for Day 1 of the Volvo Spring Regatta, the final major event of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s 2025–2026 sailing season.
Approximately 450 sailors, ranging from enthusiastic amateurs to experienced campaigners, competed across 95 boats, representing three Big Boat divisions and eight one‑design classes. These included J/80s, Sportsboats, Etchells, Impalas, Flying Fifteens, Dragons, Ruffians and Pandoras.
An additional set of courses was published the day prior to the event to manage marine traffic and maintain safe separation from an outgoing cruise ship during the regatta. Racing got underway from the Club start line just outside the Kellett Island clubhouse, with 10 successful starts completed.
Spectators along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and at the clubhouse were treated to close competition, particularly during mark roundings at Cable and tight finishes near the Club.
The Big Boat classes gathered the most competitive fleet of yachts and were divided into three divisions according to their rating and size. After Day 1 of racing, 2 Easy led Division 1, with Kingsman by Simplicity and Daydream leading Big Boat Divisions 2 and 3 respectively. Leaders across the other classes as the regatta moved into Day 2, with two more races scheduled, were Dragon Dragonfly, Etchells Racer Smithy, Flying Fifteen Fei Faan, Impala Boss Hogg, J/80 Footloose, Pandora Solstice, Ruffian Buster and Sportsboat Serendipity.
