Congrats to VAPAE #teachingartists @rhbutton and @cammiekao on completing their #guestchoreography residency & teaching at Van Nuys High School leading up to the Dance Program’s Showcase, Present Tense. They came in each week, introducing choreographic concepts like improvisational scores, musicality, and intentional dynamics. Alongside the class’s guiding teacher Ms. Diane Hula, Cammie and Robbie were able to give specific insight to their own choreographic process through these concepts.
In conjunction, they were able to apply these teachings directly to the choreography they were creating for their piece, Supercut. It has been a pleasure to see our alumni work with longtime VAPAE partner Ms. Hula and the students of the dance program at VNHS to create something truly special.
Also, a big shoutout to @kevin_m_kane for organizing and being a source of support through this process for our teaching artists.

take me back to the end of the summer with @hillsdaledance ! i always have such an amazing time coming back to my old stomping grounds and getting a chance to teach & choreograph with the dance ensemble as it continues to grow year after year.

a little throwback to my time in the “Classroom-In-Residency” 🌟💫 this past spring at the Hammer Museum in partnership with UCLA’s VAPAPE (visual and performing arts education) program. i had the BEST time with the students from Nora Sterry Elementary School and Emerson Charter Middle School. i got the opportunity to dance, choreograph and create with such talented young artists in such an incredible space.
i want to say thank you to Alice Kaufman, Ayda Gragossian & @staysofft for leading the team in such an amazing program, truly in awe of you all.
shoutout to my partner in crime @pastel.katt during this process, could not have done it without you.
i also want to give a big big thanks to @kevin_m_kane , @asherjtitan , @marissamademe@seoulsonyk & the entire @uclavapae team for the last two years of my time at UCLA. taking part in the VAPAE program allowed me to cultivate my own personal teaching skills that i can now take with me for the rest of my life. a million times over, thank you 🙏🏼
