Last week I had the opportunity to sit down with @alexcoheninla at @spectrumnews1socal to talk about the current state of Pride and the importance of workplace education on LGBTQ+ issues. There's so much more I wish I could have said about the need to address misinformation (like how TikTokers have been falsely accusing Target of selling “harmful swimwear” to kids) and how corporations have a responsibility to stand by the LGBTQ+ folks they partner with regardless of any backlash. Alex asked me about corporations that experience a drop in stock like Budlight. The truth is that the market goes up and down every day based on a multitude of factors and companies should be ready for that. By backtracking their support of Dylan Mulvaney they created a rift with the greater LGBTQ+ community and their allies. They had the opportunity to stand with the trans community and use their platform to educate the anti-trans boycott movement at a time when the TGX+ community needs it most. Not only have they lost profits from the boycott movement, but they’ve now lost out on new business from the LGBTQ+ community which holds an estimated purchasing power of $917 billion dollars in the U.S. With all that’s going on in the country, we need corporations now more than ever to use their power to uplift and support the greater LGBTQ+ community, especially the TGX+ community. I’m so grateful to Alex Cohen for using her platform on Inside the Issues to continually discuss LGBTQ+ issues year-round. Since first appearing on the show in 2019, I’ve gotten to experience their journey in allyship and it’s a huge example for me of what it looks like for people and entities to truly support our community. Thank you again to Alex and Spectrum News 1 for having me and for addressing these issues during Pride season and beyond 🙏🏻🏳️‍⚧️

This photo of Charlie Ocean (@gendersexualityinfo ) and me is from a hike we did together in 2018. The year prior, we met through a queer community event and became fast friends & collaborators. The first project we worked on together was called Ally Is A Verb, a social media campaign to educate folks on actionable steps to support LGBTQ+ individuals and communities. I'm thrilled that through our friendship and continued work as queer & trans community leaders, we've now come together to create The Corporate Guide to LGBTQ+ Events: A DIY Guide for ERG, HR, DEI, and Executive leaders. This Guide is a collection of how tos, dos and don’ts with practical tools for creating LGBTQ+ corporate events that are culturally relevant & affirming. Join us tomorrow, Thursday, September 8 at 12:30pm PT on LinkedIn Live for our Launch Party where we will discuss the creation of this guide along with its contents and how to use it! We are so excited to get this out into the world to provide more direction on creating impactful LGBTQ+ corporate events. Link in bio to RSVP! #LGBTQ #trans #nonbinary #leadership #DEI #HR #ERG

Chris Angel @gendersexualityinfo and Rex @rexwildeconsulting created a new resource called The Corporate Guide to LGBTQ+ Events: A DIY Guide for ERG, DEI, HR, and Executive Leaders 📖 Maybe you’re new to organizing LGBTQ+ events at the corporate level and have questions like how much to budget 💰 and the best ways to market for employee engagement 🎉 Maybe you're overwhelmed and need inspiration for events and themes – like how to ensure the topics you choose come from an intersectional lens. We cover various events, including how to support your local LGBTQ+ community by volunteering time, money, or items 🌈 We wrote this guide because we want your corporate events to have a significant impact‼️This guide highlights some mistakes companies can make (and the best ways to avoid those missteps) while empowering you with tools for creating LGBTQ+ events that strengthen a company's inclusivity practices by aligning their actions with their values. Please join us for our Launch Party 🥳 on LinkedIn this Thursday, September 8 at 12:30 pm PT/3:30 pm ET where we will discuss the creation of this guide along with its contents and how to use it! We hope to see you there 😁 #ERG #DEI #HR #HumanResources #corporateevents #lgbtqevents

I am so excited to announce the launch of The Corporate Guide to LGBTQ+ Events: a DIY Guide for ERG, DEI, HR, and Executive Leaders!!! Chris Angel Murphy (@gendersexualityinfo ) and I have worked together on LGBTQ+ Corporate educational initiatives since we met in 2017. Through our work together, we noticed some significant gaps in how companies planned and executed LGBTQ+ internal and external events. From last-minute planning to improper budgeting, both companies & the professionals they wanted to work with were left without proper resources to ensure the events were thoughtful, culturally affirming, and appropriately executed. Over the years, we have had many discussions about what it would look like to provide a standardized guide to relay best practices and cultural norms for DEI events. This past year, we came together to bring that vision to life. The Corporate Guide for LGBTQ+ Events is the beginning of a movement we hope to see around creating a standard for bringing in LGBTQ+ educators and speakers, and planning events from Lunch & Learns to Pride Panels. Please join us for our Launch Party on Thursday, September 8 at 12:30pm PT/3:30pm ET where we will discuss the creation of this guide along with its contents and how to use it! #LGBTQ #diversityandinclusion #dei #humanresources #corporateevents #leadership #events #hr #education #erg #brg #employeeresourcegroups #affinitygroups #employeeexperience

The TGX Initiative at @nglcc is comprised of a group of small business owners and advocates who create programming to elevate and support TGX+ small business owners from around the country. This initiative started a few years ago after a conversation between Justin Nelson and @ashleytbrundage , when they saw a greater need to support TGX+ folks both inside and outside of the NGLCC. As someone who has benefitted from and now sits on the TGXI, I cannot overstate how influential this initiative, and specifically the leadership of Ashley T Brundage, has been in my entrepreneurial journey. Ashley was the first to set up a call with me when I joined NGLCC to give me business advice, has gathered panels to listened to my presentation pitch to give me feedback, and has championed my work to corporate suppliers at NGLCC. I am lucky to consider her a mentor as well as a friend. I had the incredible honor of presenting the TGX (Transgender and Gender Expansive) Initiative Visibility Award to Ashley at the NGLCC International Business and Leadership Conference this year. From her starting this initiative, to sitting as its inaugural Chair, to the way she shows up for the TGX+ community every day, NGLCC chose the perfect recipient. Thank you Ashley for all that you do and for showing us what it looks like to lead with empowerment. @empoweringdifferences #tgx #transgender #leadership #lgbtq #diversityandnclusion #dei #empowerment

What a gift to meet your publisher in person for the first time! Last year, I wrote about my story in the anthology "The Real Lives of Transgender and Nonbinary Humans" compiled by Brandi Lai at @publishyourpurpose . Truly grateful for the vision of Brandi and @jenntgrace for making this project happen to share about the stories, strength, and resilience of the greater TGX+ community. #transgender #nonbinary #tgx #lgbtq #authenticity #storytelling

I missed sneaking a photo of the virtual panel I did last week with @dailykos on implicit bias, but the view from the office wasn't a bad one! I tuned in remotely while in Vegas for the NGLCC 2022 Conference. And got to sit alongside some incredible researchers & thought leaders: Dr. Ivy Onyeador, Dr. Keith Maddox, and Dr. Calvin Lai. Through a lens of research and personal story, we discussed implicit bias, microaggressions, and how they play out in every day life. Including what we see with the intersections of race, gender, and age. For example, a Black trans man I was talking to a few years ago who was not taken seriously during job interviews because of the ways that hormone therapy made him look younger than he was. The recruiter did not believe his credentials, something that seemed motivated by both race and the perception of his age, and he had difficulty finding a position he had spent years obtaining a degree for. Shedding light on these experiences, we talked about how to become aware of ones own bias in order shift these occurrences. And how to strategize conversations with others when you notice bias showing up in interactions. We talked about how leading from a place of grace and curiosity can lead to more productive conversations and changed behaviors over time. Thank you to the staff at Daily Kos (including @iamjennprince ) for your presence in such thoughtful programming. Truly grateful to have been a part of this discussion. #implicitbias #dei #leadership #intersectionality #diversityandinclusion
