Planning on doing some spring gardening this weekend? Go ahead and mow your lawn (if youâve got one). Actually, first read our latest article to find out why #NoMowMay may not be right for your region, then decide whatâs right for you and your ecosystem. (Link in bio)
Hashtags are catchy, but helping our planet requires a more nuanced approach.
Also, huge thanks to the writers for letting us share their work: Sheila Colla, Lorraine Johnson and Heather Holm

Rewilding Ukraine (@rewilding_dd ) has been working on large-scale restoration of the Danube Delta since 2017, bringing in keystone species such as the Konik horse, steppe marmots and eagle owls. Team members are used to protecting their land â but now that has taken on a new meaning. Some of them have moved to Romania for safety, but others have stayed behind in Ukraine. They are in need of supplies for people in the area â and so they can continue their work.
You can read more of what they have to say - and find a link for donating through @rewildingeurope - at the link in bio.

There is an eerie silence sweeping across the land, writes Georgie Power (aka @easy.beinggreen ) in her excellent piece about the state of Irelandâs forests. While Ireland is known as being the âEmerald Isle,â the truth about that greenery might surprise you: More than 70 percent of its forested land is composed of conifer trees. Why is that such a bad thing? Click the link in bio to find out
After an (extended) holiday break weâre back with a fresh issue brimming with original reporting, updates from around the globe and â for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere â a book to get through this never-ending winter.

As the deluge of promises continues at #COP26, let us cleanse your mental palate with a program already in the works starring what just might be the cutest thing youâll see on the Internet today: Scottish wildcats!â
â
The Alladale Wilderness Reserve in northern Scotland â the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and Saving Wildcats â is working on restoring the population of the âHighland tiger,â a rare feline in the United Kingdom. â
â
âThe motivation is simple,â says Alladale owner Paul Lister. âItâs having a realization of what things used to be, and what the Romans called the Great Wood of Caldeon. There was a time when there were wolves and bears and Irish elk and lynx and wild boar. And wildcats.ââ
â
Check it out at the link in bio. Because kittens (yes, there are kittens!) beat politicians any day.â

The beaver is an iconic symbol of Canada â but that doesnât mean itâs always afforded the respect it deserves. Most often they are seen as nothing more than a furry little nuisance (albeit a cute one). But as our latest story explores, a contraption called the Beaver Deceiver is showing Vancouver how useful the big-toothed rodent can be.

Howâs this for a driveway?â â
As a landowner participating in Australiaâs Land for Wildlife program, Chris Wiley is turning much of his property into a wildlife habitat. So far his efforts have attracted speckled warblers, yellow-breasted robins, the vulnerable black-breasted buttonquail and more than 162 other bird species. â â

Our feature profile this month is of Shannon Te Huia in New Zealand, who developed PĆ«niu River Care using te ao MÄori â a traditional MÄori worldview perspective.â
â
âIt involves understanding why you're doing things in a very deep way,â he says of the rewilding project. âAnd you start thinking about the life force of certain things â plants, birds, water, river â and also who you are as a person, your ancestors. You're delivering restoration in that way, and that makes the job more meaningful. And that strengthens you as a person, the more you understand these things. That's the crux of it all.ââ

European projects tend to take centre stage when it comes to rewilding - but efforts are under way around the world. In Chileâs Patagonia region, for example, teams are working to heal ecosystems damaged by farming. The goal is to support endemic species such as the puma, guanaco and Andean condor, and reintroduce the Southern rhea. â â
