Are you rewilding or thinking about it? š±
If youāre managing land (minimum 10 hectares) or a marine area (any size), whether thatās as a landowner, land manager, farmer or community group, the Rewilding Network can support your rewilding journey.
A free membership provides rewilding practitioners with access to exclusive content and funding, as well as peer-to-peer support with everything from navigating legislation to engaging with local communities. Together we can scale up rewilding across Britainās land and seas.

Think you know what wild is? š¦
Weāve been told that nature is neat. That itās tidy. But nature isnāt polite. Itās powerful.
And thatās exactly what our new video is here to show.
Weāve seen what happens when you give it the space to recover, grow and roar back. And weāre not alone, weāre building a movement to unleash natureās full potential. Join us ā link in our bio.

UK nature minister @marycreagh1 discovered rewilding yesterday at @wildkenhill_norfolk š±
Wild Ken Hill is a farm that delivers food production, eco-tourism, traditional conservation and rewilding. We were delighted to host the minister there to show her the power of rewilding and how it can work alongside other land uses.
Joined by the Environment Bank, who have a habitat bank at the site, we also discussed the importance of public and private finance in delivering nature recovery.
Sites like this show us and the UK government that despite what weāre often told, land managers don't need to choose between food production and nature ā itās just about making smart land use decisions.

Happy 100th birthday to Sir David Attenborough š
Many inspiring quotes have come from this incredible environmental champion in the century heās been on Earth, but if we had to pick a favourite this would be it:
āTo restore stability to our planet, therefore, we must restore its biodiversity, the very thing we have removed. It is the only way out of this crisis that we ourselves have created. We must rewild the world!ā
Rewilding has the potential to restore natureās remarkable web of life and give us thriving, balanced ecosystems once more.

The ādeerā in the room. Letās talk about itš
Last month, our Rewilding Manager Sara King was invited to the @britishdeersociety ās stalking show to speak on a panel about rewilding.
The discussion covered the principles of rewilding and how it works alongside deer management, as well as the potential role of lynx and plans to reintroduce elk.
Ultimately, it became apparent that rewilders and deer managers largely want the same thing: balanced deer numbers that support fully functioning ecosystems.
Deer numbers in some parts of Britain are currently at unsustainably high levels, which is harming wider biodiversity due to overgrazing and the deer themselves due to food scarcity. By returning keystone species, rewilding can help restore natural processes and create balanced, fully functioning ecosystems.
Weāre so pleased the @britishdeersociety chose to include rewilding in their discussions at this event. It was great to be able to talk to people from a range of backgrounds.

Our annual Rewilding Network Gathering always reminds us how much stronger we are together šŖ
Weāve just returned from two incredible days of learning, sharing and connecting with rewilders from across Britain.
Day one kicked off with a series of inspiring talks from Lowther Estates, Tarras Valley Nature Reserve and Solway Coast and Marine Project, exploring rewilding from source to sea. Then day two was spent on the ground at Wild Haweswater discovering this impressive project.
A huge thank you to all the Rewilding Network members who joined us, we couldnāt do it without you.
And if youāre rewilding on land or at sea (or thinking about it!), take a look at what the Rewilding Network can offer via the link in our bio.

Wildlife figures out this week show species abundance is down 40% in 44 years. It's time to restore whole ecosystems at scale. š¦ š¦
Defra data shared this week makes for sobering reading: in England 'species abundance' has fallen by around 40% between 1970-2024, and even more sharply for 'priority' species. This underlines just how vital it is to enable more rewilding, which has brought about incredible results for species at sites across Britain.
We only have to look at stats from Knepp Wildland to see just how effective rewilding can be in turning the tide. The project's 20-year monitoring data reveals that, thanks to rewilding, they've seen a 916% increase in breeding bird abundance since 2007 and a 132% increase in species richness. Plus an 871% increase in the abundance of dragonflies and damselflies from 2005ā2025 and a 53% increase in species richness along the Adur river restoration project.
So what is abundance and why does it matter? 'Relative abundance' measures how common or rare a species is compared to others within an environment. It's a key indicator of ecosystem health; a simple list of species present can be misleading because if populations are too small, they can't perform ecological roles like pollinating crops, predator-prey dynamics, dispersing seeds, and maintaining healthy soils and rivers.
Rewilding has at its heart the large-scale restoration of nature until it can take care of itselfāand usāagain. It aims to replenish natureās remarkable web of lifeārestoring native habitats, natural processes and the diversity and abundance of native species.
This is exactly the kind of nature-led approach we need to see more of across Britain. If we're serious about meeting the UK Governmentās target to halt and reverse species decline, we must move beyond protecting fragments of nature and instead rapidly restore whole ecosystems at scale. Rewilding offers a proven, cost-effective way to do this while strengthening our landscapes against climate change.

Wow, you didnāt wait around! š
We asked you to double your donations to unleash natureās power and thanks to you weāve exceeded our target of Ā£200,000 in just 5 days.
The Big Give Earth Raise Appeal is still open for donations, but our match funding has now been used up so any further donations received until noon on 29 April will not be doubled.
With under 48 hours to go, many of our collaborators still have match funding available and urgently need support. So if you still want to have your donation doubled, please consider giving to one of our partners, who are all transforming systems for a wilder future filled with lynx, beavers, storks and so much more:

Let's talk about how we actually scale up rewildingš
Over the last five years, our Rewilding Innovation Fund has awarded over Ā£1 million to scale up rewilding projects across England, Scotland and Wales. From feasibility studies to community engagement projects to trialling new technologies, weāve supported projects that are making rewilding happen.
But for every project we fund, there are many more waiting in the wings. As more people start to rewild, demand for support starts to outpace the funds we have available.
You can help remedy that. By donating to our @biggiveorg appeal not only will you be supporting our strategic funding programmes, but your donation will also be doubled by our generous match funders.
