VT100 ASCII art courtesy @adrians.digital.basement . the full cut on youtube is of him repairing the computer itself before ending with this ascii finale and it’s become my fav new comfort video. i can watch these ascii things over and over and still find them just as charming and delightful as the first time. imagine how enchanting it must look on the real screen🌌 i may be the most tech illiterate tech fan on this side of the earth and i have no intention of changing that. i enjoy oohing and aahing in ignorant awe! the VT100 was released in 1978 by the now defunct DEC and was such a market success that it set the standard for many features that we still use today. they were the first to implement smooth scroll (versus jumping lines). innovation! this month (!) i have finally learned to accept the concept of image gathering / moodboards / collage as research. who knows how many i’ve made for other people. i think i thought i was too good for them. maybe i was also scared of what would be reflected back at me (confirmation of my existence). but if true enlightenment means having no reflections in the material world… maybe i’m finally giving in to being human…? late to the party but better late than never!

i’m 33! thank you for the opportunity i am dumber than i’ve ever been before and disappointed in myself for being uncool (=scared of conflict, scared to express myself, scared to take risks, scared of burnout, scared of being relevant, scared of being irrelevant) we always want what we don’t got ay but this year is the year im gonna become a Cool Girl. !!!! and get my drivers license! 2026 is my teenage revival! i’m fighting hard not to lose myself to the validation money machine and this stupid fucking black box we’re gonna make shitty crafts and enjoy things in ignorant bliss instead of cynically analyzing everything in sight. i’m not depressed but i’m still healing from depression from years and years ago and i’m so ashamed to admit that all the art i’ve been so privileged to see and help create over the past almost-decade could not touch my dry stone soul. but i’ve come very close to feeling again that little spark of joy and it’s a selfish, invisible accomplishment that i feel really horrible about but i would like to continue pursuing it anyway because i suppose that’s what the healed state is and what is the experience of life but your own consciousness. you are who you are everyday. life is too short to lie to yourself but the greater danger is forgetting how to be honest with yourself! i am relearning how to listen to my heart’s bells. onward and upward 🌌 above please find some Self Portraits inspired by one of my original myspace profile pics which i edited manually to be blurry and teal bc filters didn’t exist yet and it also had naruto theme song lyrics photoshopped on to it. i sadly no longer have it bc my dad threw away the hard drive on which i had meticulously archived every detail of my 2000s internet life (one of the most traumatizing events of my life) but now here it continues to live on in spirit.

𝑱𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑬𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆 “when all else fails, follow your curiosity” has been the corny inspirational motto of 2026. i now make sure to grasp onto every littlest thing that sparks the faintest shadow of joy and intrigue in me because what else is there to live for? this book makes me ridiculously happy so i spent an absurd amount of money on it even tho the euro to yen conversion + store’s import markup were ouch. i believe that every intellectual, logical thought begins as a feeling. math and physics are emotions. fragile human constructions have always given me comfort. delicate diagrams: timeless, objective, correct: also give comfort. these make me laugh out loud. the laughter is the primitive precursor to a thought but i almost don’t want to put it into words because that would be like explaining the joke. the text at the beginning is short but wonderful. “unlike the engineer who works strictly from blueprints, the bricoleur reconfigures materials to meet immediate needs, giving familiar elements new purposes, emphasizing improvisation and resourcefulness.” i read fantasy by bruno munari right before this, and he wrote about how creativity (one aspect of it) relies on the fantasy of an object where it doesn’t belong. it’s true— functionality relies on fantasy; the fantasies of the bricoleurs in every city, including you. 🧱 related readings: - Colin Rowe and Fred Koetter: Collage City - Isaiah Berlin: The Hedgehog and the Fox

a tad late but do allow me to be insufferable and post a slightly glitchy 2025 highlights montage thats about 30 seconds too long lol. last year was packed with action but not so much thought. i did more than i ever dreamed could be possible for the small life i have been allotted. i never thought i’d escape the 9 to 5 (or should i say 10 to 10). i woke up late, ate good food, travelled, picked up new hobbies, revived old ones, networked, made new friends, collaborators, partners, scrutinized the awkward person in the mirror, a baby fawn freshly cut loose from puppet strings, a little unreliable but still strangely lovable in all its small failures. i felt out of my depth but comfortable in my skin. i’m feeling how i feel like twenty two should have felt— kinda dumb, content with the simple things, excited about dressing up and meeting up with friends. i lived inside a bubble of peace and joy, miraculously, amidst a horrifying world. this kind of life is not meant to last long. i will cherish 2025, my year of utter freedom and pure bliss, the year i managed to escape reality and live in a dream. 💙

OPENING THIS FRIDAY 🍽️ 5-8PM @fat_varin at @cassette_fukuoka my first coordination project after going solo this march is finally coming to fruition! so delighted to be able to assist with producing this show— the first international artist to be shown at cassette :) the need to connect languages and cultures may feel overdone and unnecessary in our age of globalization and overinformation but in fact the work never ends. i’m so glad that i get to do this as my job and v proud to be a part of this show! can’t wait for everyone to see on fri!!! ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* sophie varin 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙗𝙚 𝙨𝙤 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 11.28-12.28.2025 @cassette_fukuoka 11am-7pm | closed wednesdays opening reception: 11/28 fri 5-8pm come one come all!

if u know me u know i love ceramics so i was so honored to help put this show together! now on view at @wkmgallery in hong kong! really lovely and earthy works by ceramicists across various ceramic regions of japan. happy to finally get to work with @takumimorozumi after meeting 3 or so years ago… you never know how things will pan out! and my serendipitous encounter with @obanatomohisa thru som gallery led to us to his partner @tomoko_obana , who we discovered is a wonderful artist in her own right. and last @inayoshiosamu who i discovered perhaps through a kaikai kiki ceramic show? i can’t remember, but he does research into a slightly overlooked style of very ancient ceramics called atsumiyaki, developed in the aichi atsumi region where he was born and raised. on view through december catch it before the holidays! photos by shane long, courtesy the gallery and artists

I am delighted to announce and invite you to my solo show “The Shape of Sacred Space” at @spawn_koenji that is opening on the evening of October 17. Blessed to have the wonderful @respectfully as the curator of the show who remained in intense dialogue with me throughout the entire process <3 Deeply inspired by my travels to Mongolia in the last two years, the works explore the bi-directional relationship between sacred spaces and human movement, spiritual practice and impermanence, mystical journeys and things left behind in the path. — The Shape of Sacred Space 2025/10/18-2025/10/23 ・13:00-21:00 Opening reception: 2025/10/17 ・18:00-21:00 SPAWN KOENJI 〒166-0003 Tokyo, Suginami City, Koenjiminami, 3 Chome−42−14 フラワーコーポ 102 Design by @adityatori 💙
