☀️Beautiful review of NOT NOW NOW by Sandra Doller over at @sundresspublications ! . . “There is fragility and ambiguity to most problems, but the reader learns through these poems that they must confront these experiences head-on. As Doller writes, ‘Let the times you flinch be / the times you’re really in it.’” —Ruoyu Wang

Welcome to our 🔎 More About 🔎 series and celebrate with us the small presses, authors, and books from our Small Press Subscription Program! Our first small press, author, and book from the May Bundle, which you can sign up for by April 15th [link in profile], is… 📚 Rescue Press 📚 Rescue Press is a library of chaotic and investigative work. Founded in Milwaukee in 2009, Rescue is an editor-run independent publisher of poetry, prose, and hybrid texts. Rescue Press values experimentation, conversation, care, and idiosyncrasy and is interested in high-contrast writing that pushes the boundaries of genre. ✨Sandra Doller ✨is the author of several books of poetry, prose, translation, and the in-between from the most valiant small presses, most recently Not Now Now from Rescue Press. Her work has lately appeared in magazines such as Fence, Harp & Altar, Pamenar, Touch the Donkey, and Action, Spectacle. Doller is the founder of an international literary arts journal and independent press called 1913, where she remains l’éditrice-in-chief. She lives in the USA, for now. ⏲ Not Now Now ⏲ (2025) is a highly entertaining book of poems, or as Paola Capó-García wonderfully describes it, “an assemblage of odd thinking things, of poems mid-thought, of baby speak beside Stein/Scalapino speak, of musings on motherhood, of pure pleasure experiments grounded in the freedom of abstraction.” Check out our full micro-interview with Sandra in the comments below! ~~~ @rescuepress @1913press #SmallPressPublishing #SmallPressSubscription #Poetry ~~~ Our incentive for starting this program was to offer assistance to publishers affected by Small Press Distribution's abrupt closure in spring 2024. Now in 2026, with the sudden termination of NEA awards for literary presses and magazines, the crisis for small poetry publishers in the US has increased manifold, as has our motivation to continue providing this service. You can learn more about these twin crises and get updates on how to help small presses from CLMP (Community of Literary Magazines and Presses). Thank you for helping us support the small-press ecosystem from which new voices in American poetry most frequently emerge!

Thanks to 💜 @janelewty for this brilliant review of Sandra Doller's NOT NOW NOW "The reader ziplines through the untitled poems of “NOT,” “NOW,” and “NOW,” buffeted by the landscaped nuances; those of motherhood and self/humanhood, of an American diorama with its shootings and plagues, its Big Gulps and angels and thrill seekers and cartoon bandits and possums in the empty yard..."

Fiction & guitar w/ Sara Jaffe: 🎸 ⚡ 🎸 🖤 🎸 📘 🎸 ⚡ 🎸 The East Coast event for EARTH TO YOU will be at @wfmu ’s Monty Hall on Friday 1/23 w/ Bill Nace @avamendozamuzak and @ahumancertainly 1/26 at 6:30pm will be a reading at @ptknitwear (NY NY) w/ @tillwhentillman Portland event for the EARTH TO YOU compilation with @iilyasaahmed @marisaandersonmusic @hoyston and @tarajaneoneil on 1/31 7pm at @picapdx Ben Holt writes (more at Rescue blog): Sara Jaffe, ex-guitarist for the early-00’s punk band Erase Errata, follows her first novel Dryland with a collection of superb short stories, Hurricane Envy. The story “Earth To You” portrays the 27-year-old acupressure therapist Helen’s guitar-playing origins. Helen ultimately rejects proper technique, preferring instead raw sonics and experimentation. Jaffe invited eight of her favorite guitarists to create pieces inspired by the story and compiled them in Earth To You: Guitar Players Respond to a Short Story About a Guitar Player, now available on @bandcamp . The half hour album is tight, fiery and focused. “Earth To You” and its coinciding album are enjoyable as single entities but work best as a multimedia experience. Read, then listen, or read and listen at the same time. If the album is the noise, the story is the body.

The west coast tour for Sara Jaffe's eagerly anticipated HURRICANE ENVY (Rescue Press, 10/21/25) will include stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, and Seattle, with the book launch scheduled for November 5 at Powell's with Darcie Dennigan. In conjunction with Hurricane Envy’s release, Sara will be releasing a music compilation featuring contemporary experimental guitarists responding to her story “Earth to You,” a story about guitars and desire, loud sounds and strange sounds. Artists include Marisa Anderson, Ava Mendoza, Tara Jane O’Neil, Jenny Hoyston, Bill Nace, Ilyas Ahmed, Emily Robb, and Andy Moor. The compilation will be released on Bandcamp on 10/21. Pre-order from Rescue! Early praise below! "Sara Jaffe's stories are sharp-witted, unusual, and surprising. Jaffe finds the odd moment, the change of circumstance, the imperfect setting—a bar and a baby, say—to play havoc with expectations. Her stories delight me." –Lynne Tillman @tillwhentillman "These stories crackle and hum, bristle and buzz; they charge the air with their characters' queer wants while asking and showing what stories—and music—can do. And the prose! Each finely tuned sentence of this superbly crafted and disarmingly funny book delivers some jolt or delight. An outstanding collection by one of my favorite writers." –Megan Milks @sklimnagem "God this is good. Sara Jaffe—I knew already from her exquisitely subtle novel of young queer adolescence, Dryland—is the maestro of rendering what it means to be misperceived. If her narrators in Hurricane Envy have grown some, have found themselves and organized their lives according to their inmost convictions and their agonizingly niche proclivities, their basic plight is the same (the same for all of us?): to attract notice or to escape notice—or, narrowly, both. The giggle to heart-pang ratio here is expertly one-to-one, and both columns of the ledger are brimming. Brilliant." –Brian Blanchfield Photo credit: Mike Palmieri

Happy end o' summer, these two wonders are (not now) ✨ NOW ✨ available for preorder! Megan Milks says Jaffe's stories "crackle and hum, bristle and buzz;" Lynne Tillman calls them "sharp-witted, unusual, and surprising;" and Brian Blanchfield does the math: "giggle to heart-pang ratio here is expertly one-to-one." Paola Capó-García on Doller's poems: "every word is plucked and stretched;" while Lauren Shapiro calls NNN the "vibrating vibrator in the carry-on luggage, the alarm clock that keeps getting snoozed." We love you all. 💜 Enjoy. 🏄‍♂️ #rescuepress #smallpresspublishing #sarajaffe #sandradoller #newbooks
