NEW SHOW!!!!!! TICKETS IN OUR BIO!!! Reflective Hands is proud to Brazilian dream-pop duo @atalhosbanda to the sunny shores of margate @elsewheremarg8 to celebrate thier fourth album ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’, via the @costa_futuro . Already receiving warm reviews, the band have been praised by ROLLING STONE as “A delight to listen to… reminiscent of The War on Drugs”, whereas PROG MAGAZINE hailed new album ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’ as “like Caetano Veloso channelling The Dukes of Stratosphear…there are strong flavours of 80s neo-psych in their swirling sound, filtered through layers of tropicalia”. Typical of the record’s loose and hazy qualities, the album opens with the shimmering six-minute “Tierra del Fuego”. Featuring dreamy guitar strums, clouds of synth imagery, intoxicating looping beats and evocative melodies, the track was mastered by legendary American producer Greg Calbi (Tame Impala, The War on Drugs, Bon Iver) at Sterling Sound, along with the other 8 tracks that make up their sumptuous latest album. Three years later in March 2022, Atalhos will finally release the spoils of their collaborative efforts: ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’. NEW SHOW!!!!!! Beyond excited to announce Brit Jazz juggernauts @illconsideredmusic will be performing live @elsewheremarg8 on 16/10/22 TICKETS IN OUR BIO!!!!! Many thanks to @fmly.agency as always!!!! Combining riotous free improvisation and deep groove, UK-based outfit Ill Considered havejoined forces with New Soil to release their expansive catalogue of eight vinyl-only albumsdigitally for the first time as part of a “Digital Tour” this autumn, ahead of a new album andlive performance at London Jazz Festival. Comprised of bassist Liran Donin (Led Bib), saxophonist Idris Rahman (Wildflower, Soothsayers)and producer/mixer/drummer Emre Ramazanoglu (David Holmes, Leo Abrahams, Noel Gallagher,Steam Down, Theon Cross, Wildflower, Etienne Daho) Ill Considered are not wasting any time. Ferociously energetic and relentless productive, the outfit recorded and released nine albums in two years between 2017 and 2019, tearing through an improvised yet fully-formed repertoire insingle-take sessions that display a unique versatility and sense of invention. As saxophonist Idris Rahman explains: “We are trying in real time to shape the music with repetitive hooks, dynamic builds, moments where we diverge into chaos and moments where we hit a climax as if we’d rehearsed it. We’re always looking for those points and listening to each other to feel where we’re going to go next.” Fusing the dynamism of the UK jazz scene with an improvised punk energy, the band’s sound is not easily pigeonholed. Each album features original artwork by illustrator Vincent De Boer, channeling a DIY ethos that has propelled the outfit to under-the-radar cult status. Each of their vinyl-only releases has sold out at source. “The Ill Considered sound is wide and varied, and potentially limitless in sonic scope,” Rahman explains. “We’re looking to express our emotions to the fullest possible extent and to make the resulting music coherent and cathartic for any listener that wishes to join us.” Support TBC Many thanks to @mosamad.xyz for the graphics on this one check out his work!!!! @will.samson will be gracing @elsewheremarg8 on 6th September performing tunes from his incredible new record “Active Imagination” here’s will with a few words about it: “My family tree spreads so far across the globe that I've often wondered if it is in my blood to be constantly moving, perhaps in a search to find a solid sense of belonging" "With no real ancestral homeland (or rather, a multitude of them) it is easy to feel a conflicted sense of identity – even if just on a very subtle level. These feelings would sometimes appear as dreams, which then became songs” Musically it bends subtly between folk and electronica, where little pulses of experimental flourishes sit next to Samson’s evocative vocals, and the record pulls many of its reference points from a number of the artists he’s shared a stage with over the years: from Bon Iver’s S. Carey , through to the Album Leaf, Olafur Arnalds , and Do Make Say Think. We are very excited for Will to join us in Margate having been extensively touring Europe this year. Support will be provided by the beautiful sonic touches of @clementine__blue Tickets Available in our Bio. Many thanks as always to @phantom.limb . WE CANNOT WAIT for @enablershazelatlastunes Enablers to come to town on the 1/09/22 @elsewheremarg8 supported by the sonic duo of @seanbgoldring & @yemrot00 the gig that never happened is finally happening. Tickets available in our bio & DICE. NOT TO BE MISSED!!! Enablers chew up twenty years as a band and bring us their seventh Lp entitled, “Some Gift”. On this Lp, Pete Simonelli yearns menacingly towards beauty then retreats to reverence while drummer Sam Ospovat places the bizarre over the beats with an array of pedals and contact mics. Somehow, behind it all, after three decades of collaboration, Goldring and Thomson still surprise us with their weaving, dodging, and burning guitars. An extensive tour of the EU and UK kicks off September 1, 2022 in support of both “Some Gift” and the fifteenth anniversary edition of “Output Negative Space”. From Jack Chuter’s Storm Static Sleep - A Pathway Through Post-Rock: (Enablers’) music lands between the slippery harmonic surfaces of early 90s post-rock and the softened elegance of the more modern incarnations of it, the guitars dragged like a ribbon by the elusive poetic imagery of Pete Simonelli’s spoken word. From Jordan Mamone, writing for Noisey: Enablers' snaking guitar telepathy is equally distinctive…Joe Goldring and Kevin Thomson (have) refined an intuitive vocabulary of filigreed arpeggios, needling leads, and grand crescendos that roil like the vast Pacific….Simonelli has accomplished that rarest of feats: enhancing slow-burning, noir-ish rock with unapologetic poetry that actually flatters rather than overshadows the songs…(Ospovat’s) improvisational arsenal of rolls, taps, and flutters allows for spontaneity without sacrificing impact. NEW SHOW!!!! Reflective Hands is proud to present @will.samson @phantom.limb @elsewheremarg8 on 6th September. Tickets £10 <<Link In Our Bio>> Electronic / folk artist Will Samson brand new album Active Imagination, the follow-up to 2019’s Paralanguage. Worked on across the span of one entire year – from January of 2020 through to December – it’s comprised of nine beautiful new pieces, and sits as a richly layered meditation on the idea of belonging, identity and the search for home in the most unstable of worlds. Musically it bends subtly between folk and electronica, where little pulses of experimental flourishes sit next to Samson’s evocative vocals, and the record pulls many of its reference points from a number of the artists he’s shared a stage with over the years: Bon iver amongst others. Where previous efforts were informed hugely by his work with tape machines, here he uses more live percussion than ever before. His long-time collaborator Beatrijs De Klerck provides strings, Rachael Dadd adds subtle backing vocals, but its Will’s unique vision that gently comes alive throughout the album. Influenced by Sgt Pepper's and Luke Abbott’s Translate LP, Samson pushed himself to new heights, completely reworking and re- recording some initial tracks when he realised he wasn't creatively extending himself farenough. The finished result is a mesmerising testimonial to learning self-love and growing inner-confidence, as well as the aforementioned examination of identity. Indeed, some of the songs were also pulled from Samson’s attempts to learn lucid dreaming during the initial lockdowns of 2020. Many of the album’s lyrics are simple descriptions of these dreams, which Will documented with a dedicated dream diary: ’Juvenita’, for example, was directly lifted from a dream Samson had about walking through an empty Indian city with his ancestors. The legendary @uralthomasandthepain will be hitting the seaside here in Margate @elsewheremarg8 . Sunday 19th June. Save the Date!! Original soul flavours from the 60s not to be missed! Tickets: £12.50 adv £6.50 18-23yr (Tickets in Our Bio) or available on Dice. Universally recognized as one of the most exciting singers remaining from the original soul era, 82 year-old Ural Thomas and his band The Pain just released their third LP “Dancing Dimensions”. Thomas initially made his name in the 1960s with stone cold soul classic releases like “Pain Is The Name of Your Game,” “Can You Dig It,” “Deep Soul,” and his 1964 recording debut with The Monterays “Push – Em Up.” After a musical journey that commenced in his native Portland, Oregon, and led to Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and New York, sharing stages with everyone from James Brown to Stevie Wonder to Otis Redding to Etta James, Thomas became disillusioned with the music business and returned home to the city of roses at the end of the decade – where he continues to reign as Portland’s uncontested Soul Brother Number One.
